New cars getting harder and harder to work on?

Anybody else notice this? It seems like older cars were MADE to be upgraded for audio (really easy to do intalls for the most part) and newer cars seem to try and keep us out.

I just noticed how much more difficult the newest models are to say put in a new head unit. I mean they wire the brain of the car to the **** thing, makes it kinda hard and pointless to remove it since your car wont go anywhere without it

Depends on the car and functions. My Mazdaspeed 3 was pretty easy. my BMW was impossible. Without the stock headunit I lost so much functionality and to change it out took a bunch of work. But my 2013 WRX was simple metra adapter and everything works. The difference, my BMW had cool features, my Mazda and Subaru are freaking basic and boring. Consumers want cool features. You have to pay ($) and crazy wiring to get those cool features.

It was nice to easily drop in a headunit 2 weeks ago in my 2013 Sunarubut I miss the on board computer of my BMW that told me Ihow many miles to an oil change, tire rotation, radiator flush, how many miles to empty, gas mileage and all kinds of other cool things.

There are trade offs for everything.

My dad, grandpa, and great grandpa worked for Ford. According to them its been going on since the 1930's. Here's to catching up! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

can't you get new cars without useless features?

Speaking of car audio difficulty, my uncle drives a Buick Rendezvous and want's a new HU. You have to take off the ENTIRE FRONT DASH FACE OFF. Around the steering wheel and all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif
