New car, need advice....

Ok guys. I got rid of the ol clunker 94 Buick and now have an 05 Malibu LS V6. It doesn't have Onstar or factory amps, so the installation will be a breeze. I'm just wondering which adapter to get for the headunit. There is something called the "Driver Information Center" incorporated into the stock head unit. I don't care about keeping most of what it does, so I'm not really interested in getting this Amazon.com: Metra 99-3303 Install kit for GM Vehicles Using The LAN System Integrate Vehicle Diagnostics (Black): Automotive ...unless I have to. I would prefer to get something less expensive, like this http://www.amazon.com/PAC-C2R-GM11B-Replacement-Interface-2005-2006/dp/B00195JNA8/ref=pd_sim_e_15. Plus, the metra kit has a lot of bad reviews regarding D.O.A's and bad lcd's. I don't care about a a dumb thermometer, trip computer, mpg readout, etc.... but, I do want to retain the lights-flash/horn-honk when unlocking/locking the doors. Losing the ability to turn that last function on or off doesn't even matter to me. I just want to make sure it's still there when I install the new unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Almost a hundred view and no advice from the GM people? Lol, that's alright... think I might get the crappy metra outfit anyway. D.I.C. does more than I thought....

Thank you. I would still be still be stuck in the 90's too if my dad hadn't surprised me and my gf with a grand for whatever we needed. Dead serious. We'd be in that old Buick, or or a much more used car than the one we have now.

Yuh, me too. My 99 Buick has the DIC in the instrument panel and I use it all the time. Wouldn't want to be without some of those functions.
Yeah it controls alot of the stock alarm functions and a couple other things I'd like to retain. Just wish the adapter (metra 99-3303) could be found for less than what it's going for. It retails close to 200 at a lot of sites, but I found a few places that sell it for closer to 100.... still pricey for a GM interface/adapter that doesn't even have to bypass onstar or amps....

I just sold one of those for 80 shipped. Might be able to get another one and it was not metra either. But you need it or it will trigger the check engine light with out it
yes, please! how soon can i get it? I was just given a kdc-x995 and i would love to put it in, lol

that's a used car not a new car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif the title threw me
would've sounded weird if the title of the thread read that way.... "used car, need advice" lol
