i built a 2ft^3 @ 35Hz for a single 12" and here's some pics:

as you can see i'll be gaining about 10" worth of depth back in my trunk.

here's another thread on the topic:

http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177889

i replaced the radioshack terminal with 3/8" bolts and sealed it all with silicone. i'll probably be putting it in tomorrow. hopefully i'll be making a custom 'faceplate' for it sometime soon. (it'll span the width of the trunk for that 'custom' look, and i'll just carpet the vanity baffle).

the bigger box is 3.5ft^3 @ 32Hz built by kpozr2 from this forum. it is MUCH better build quality than the one i made (my first try at box building), and it sounds great! but it takes up all but about 10" of my trunk, and i'd like some of it back. right now i'm looking into getting a single 12" that can handle more power and hopefully will have a level of output near the dual assassin's.

Nice looking first box.
it definitely has it's flaws:

front and back are nearly 1/8" shorter than the sides and port pieces (gaps, but now filled with silicone)

port is slightly wider at both openings (just over 2.5" at both ends but somehow just under 2.5" at the 90 degree bend)

driver cutout is not very good and a little big

original terminals leaked air (a LOT, but now i have silicone sealed nuts and bolts)

overall kind of ugly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but now that it's sealed up it should work fine (but doesn't looks so pretty). i think once i get the new baffle on it should be fine (and be flush mounted!). like this:

i'm really tempted to just buy another piece of MDF and do the same box again (but do it right). i think now that i've done it once before, i think it'd be much easier and turn out much better, but there isn't really anything functionally wrong with it, so i feels it's kind of a waste.

i think i'll just get it installed tomorrow and see how it sounds, hopefully i like it!

1/8th gap? that's pretty significant.
yeah, wood glue defnitely wouldn't fill it, but i'm pretty sure the silicone did a good job of plugging the holes.

i got it installed this morning and it sounds quite good. i didn't lose as much out put as i expected (but i am giving the assassin nearly double it's RMS of 350W at about 650W right now!).

i DID lose a LOT of low end, though. the songs that used to really shake my car now sound weak and don't hit hard at all.

if i decide to re-do the box, i'm thinking of going down to a tuning of 30Hz. like this:

http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=32&Eh=14&Dia=6&Xmax=15.5&Vd=.08&NumW=1&Vb=2&Fb=30&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0

do you think that 25in^2 of port is enough for most 12" subs (in case i get something else in the future)? i know bigbassman uses four 4" aero ports for his two Mag's so if that's enough port area for him, i'd think it'd be enough for any driver in my price range (
