new amp help

OK 15 years ago bought a mtx 5400x 5 channel amp hooked it up to my stock head unit and power a pair of mtx 8's. So been a while since I did any of this it finally burned up so I bought a Memphis 5 channel hooked it up just like the mtx but now have no power to the subs. Any ideas did the mtx have different settings.

Those 8's 15 years old too? Dmm the voice coils on those subs, they could be done also.

Everything was working fine was playing radio on my way to work and all of a sudden got a high pitch squeal and then the amp started smoking so pulled over and disconnected the negative wire didn't want to catch truck on fire.

Should I hook up a speaker or am I missing something do I need rca's to the amp.

get a meter and test the subs. The amp toasting might have toasted the subs on the way out.

Should I check each sub or can I just check the wires going to the enclosure. It's one of those plastic molded ones mtx made back in the day for the f150's. What should the resistance be.

Checked wires I pulled off amp and get .3 ohms so going to pull enclosure and check each one.

Are they d4, d2, s2, s4? There's def an issue if that's your reading. Push down on the cone, is there a grind or scratchy sound?

Don't know what they are. All I know is there mtx thunder something. I'm going to pull enclosure out and check each sub.

OK finally pulled enclosure one sub 6.5 and the other .2 with a sticky cone or something. When you push down on the cone it stays down until you push it back up. Could I hook up the one and see if I get sound.

Well tried the one good sub and it made noise at least the amp works. Time for new subs any advice on a good medium budget 8" sub.
