New alternator, new voltage problems

Just got my 320a alternator from Mechman installed today. When I was driving home I realized how low my voltage was at usual idling speed. I idle at 600, currently anything below 900 kills my voltage. I called Eric and he told me to drive it around some this weekend and let him know on Monday if I'm still having the problem.

If I'm stuck at a red light for over a minute my voltage drops LOW, below 12 volts low. I'm not even playing music to begin with. I know I was told to drive normally throughout the weekend, but that was before I knew my voltage would go below 12.5.

Has anyone had this problem before with a new alternator? And I'm at least safe to drive around right? Never had below 13 volts until today.

I didn't put it in myself. However, there is no belt slip and it's just as tight as before. The pulley looks identical to the one on my oem alternator. I obviously don't know the exact mm of each one, but I'm worried it's because the pulley size is off.

The charging problem is most likely related to the turn-on speed of the unit in this application, your car is idling below the actual turn-on speed.

Call me and we will get this resolved.

Thanks,

Eric.

We have no reason to not address this type of issue. I will test his unit once it arrives, make the necessary changes and ship it back. Same thing we did for Brandon, only his didn't need anything changed.

No drama required, all I need is an email or phone call to resolve any issues.

Could you explain that a little please? I have worked on alternators for 20 years and that’s a new one for me. What is there to adjust inside of an alternator?

The turn on speed is monitored by the ecm of the car. Once the alternator is up to speed, it is safe to draw current from it. THAT is what he means by turn on speed. This can be remedied with a smaller pulley.

The ecm knows the speed of the crank sensor only so how will changing a pulley that the ecm does not see change anything?
