New alt is in, troubleshooting.

Ok. New alt is in. 300 amp with external voltage regulator. At idle, it's doing stuff that I don't think it should be. The voltage is jumping around .3 volts and it's like there is a load constantly being taken on and off. You can hear it in the engine. Also, at idle, my headlights and dome lights dim and get brighter, seemingly with the engine. My check charging system light came on, but I expected that.

There are two wires on the factory harness- an orange with light blue and a green with red. I'm not sure what to do with these. Thoughts?

one of those wire is for the charging light...

not sure but i think that one of those wires on the factory harness is for the exciter, basically looped back to the alt or battery.

Ho alts always cause problems. My car was too new and the vcm was computer ran and wouldn't let all the voltage thru and charge when it had loads lol

What's your alt turn on rpm?

youre not going to have a "turn on" rpm...the alternator produces power when turned. Its an armature getting turned and itll provide power being turned very slow, albeit not much.

It has to be something to do with your car...does your car regulate voltage through the computer, or was the alternator internally regulated?

The stock alternator used to regulate voltage through the ECM, but that's why I got a external voltage regulator. I can control the voltage now, I just have to figure these things out.
