New AA SMD Woofer

scott bought the basket patent, thats about where the similarities end (other then it being round)
He uses his own designs for the sub....so again, its not a revamped 5200 or 5400.
Its going to be hard to seperate from that connotation. Everytime someone see's a TC basket, they're going to think "TC" and that alone already has a negative association. I dont really understand why Scott would use that basket or even want to buy the patent from baldy.

Im not downing your sub, im just curious on the decision to use that particular basket. Hell, ive put MT motors on that exact basket before.

Honestly, I don't see a reason not to buy it.

Well, its not like there isnt 2938298392 other baskets that china makes, so why use an old design? Maybe no one sees my logic but id want to distance a NEW sub as much as possible from a failed company like TC.....but again, maybe thats just me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

indeed.

i dont know the politics behind what happened at TC or why scott bought them....maybe he needed something that could handle a 4" coil and this was convenient i dont know. To be honest i know almost nothing about TC other then hearing the name on the net.....never seen or heard one in person personally. No one i know (locally that doesnt compete) knows what or who they are either. I like the basket, ive had the standard 12spoke for years its time for a change (for me).

with so many sub companies using the same baskets as eachother, it doesnt bother me at all it resembles something else, apparantly its not all that uncommon for that to happen.

The only handy thing about those baskets (when TC used them) was the quick-change recone ability since you can just unscrew the basket from the motor and then put a pre-reconed basket on your motor. But really that was more of a centering ring mod for doing that. Other then that, it was just a piece of metal that could accomodate a 4" coil/spider assembly well.

Familiar with the old school Orion HCCA's?

here is something scott posted on the SSA forums - i just read it:

-----------------

No, we have nothing to do with TC or Audiopulse. My understanding is that TC and Audiopulse are both owned by the same people and that TC doesnt operate in the same capacity it used to. I had purchased the patent and rights to the 6 spoke versions of that basket at auction a few months back and will be using it solely for AA and one other OEM company we build for. We are currently tooling a 6 spoke version of a 10" and 12" as well to fall under our patent. The previous 10" and 12" are under a separate patent for 4 spokes. We had no interest in purchasing that one as we feel that the 6 spoke is far stronger for the larger applications that we will use it for.

In regards to the new SMD Series sub for AA there are a couple of changes being made for production. The main two are the suspension integration and the magnets. While the OD will be the same size, they are actually 6mm taller per magnet (gaining almost 1/2" more height for the pair). Also, the magnet boot has been tooled for this double stack vs the current shorter stack.

The design itself is a natural progression of what we have learned with the BTL and Mayhems. While it does not vastly improve on overall excursion, we have seen that to be far less a concern than increased thermal ability and mechanical power handling. Overall just a tougher package.

Now back to SEMA and dealers

Thanks,

Scott
