Never seen so many blown subs for sale...

Seriously, this forum has more people selling blown subs, motors only, motors with baskets, and recone kits than any other place I can think of. I think SD has the rep of being for the basshead streetbeater crowd, while ECA has the rep for the 'snobbish' crowd, DIYMA is known probably more for SQ and obviously DIY guys, but what's up with this place?

You think the crowd here is just in general really, really hard on their subs, or is there some other explanation? I mean, I've been in this hobby for... I dunno, 12+ years and I have never once blown a sub, and only blown 1 amp. The amp was intentional, I was trying to see how hard I could push it. I even still have the thing, hoping someday to get it repaired. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Hell, I've still got the first pair of subwoofers I ever owned, a pair of Pioneer 10" IMPP diamondplates. lol I originally ran them off a Pioneer 4-channel, then a Zapco Z600 when I started getting more into the higher-end equipment. They're still functional and sitting my in closet, waiting for me to find a use for them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Anyways, just curious what you guys think... does the number of 'blown' woofers for sale here indicate anything about the 'average' user on this forum?

Hehe, nah, I've only been here about 6 months (in NC), plus I'm a family man now... only partying I do is on my neighbor's deck in the backyard, drinkin' Scotch and watchin' time go by. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It just means more competitors are selling here. Got anymore brain busters you want answered?

True... I mean I wasn't trying to *****, or to insult anyone, I was just asking for some honest opinions. But you know, everyone's gotta show how they're so much smarter than everyone else. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Obviously, I must have a serious lack of intelligence for asking such a question. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

Have you never installed anything yourself? Or perfect or something? 12+ years without any problems... Your pretty good..
Actually I've installed everything myself for the last decade or so, after having been ripped off and mistreated by too many 'authorized dealers'. I never said I'd never had any problems, just that I hadn't blown any subs, and only one amp.

My installs typically look like ***, but they're safe, because I don't want to fry my equipment or burn my car down. It seems you think that at least a good portion of these blown subs are from poor installing technique?

I guess that's one possibility.
