nerds- help me upgrade my RAM!

ok so when upgrading RAM... what has to match? ive been looking but im finding different information... there is

DDR SoDIMM - the size?

PC-2100 - ???

333Mhz - the speed?

so of course the physical size is important, but say is PC-2100 compatible with PC-2700? and do the speeds have to match?

It depends on the motherboard.

ok i see... so the PC-xxxx numbers are not interchangeable

so a computer will only use memory of a certain bandwith? say a computer that is designed for PC2100 will not work with PC2700? i guess what got me confused is i went to apple's site and went to what memory is avalible for my laptop and it showed two pieces, one was a 512 PC2100 and one was a 1gig PC2700... i assume that was a mistake?

I know that my laptop can handle either 2100 or 2700. It might be that you can use either. 2700 is just a faster memory.
