Neodymium Dome Tweeter.

Are they any good?

How does this type of tweeter compare to others?

If these are not very good, what type of tweeter would be recommended for good, smooth highs? I was thinking about putting together a comp. set myself. Where is a good place to look for instructions and schematics for building a crossover network for them.

Thanks!

No telling from the information you gave. That's like asking opinions of "a car with 4 wheels".

There are quite a few on the market....you're going to have to be a little more descriptive of what exact tweeter you are talking about //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I think dome material/construction has more to do with how it sounds than the type of magnet. That said, my Dls tweets sound awesome.

P.S. a lot of how a tweeter will sound is in the crossover too.

If you want a cheap woofer, I'd look into either Silver Flute or these Dayton Classics
Thanks Squeak. Im just curious to so what I can accomplish and what kind of sound I can get out of a cheap set of speakers and a hand made crossover. Just experimenting / playing around. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Who knows? They may sound fantastic.

Where would be a good place to start learning about building a crossover? I've done a little searching, but my wife kicked me off the puter so she could use it. Sheeeess //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

I'd seriously consider going active unless you are just very interested in the topic of passive design and want to devote 1000s of hours of your life to the cause //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

I'm crazy though...

Its been awhile since I've picked up the basics and I rly didn't get any formal training... just years of tinkering and talking to people that knew what they were doing and had enough time to spend with noobs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif – nice people…

I rly don’t have much time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif with the business and all but ya can ask me questions if ya want and I'll at least let ya know if you are missing some huge key fact //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Are some better places to find a vast wealth of information...

sound.westhost.com/ has some more advanced info that’s useful -- as well as various white papers from linkwitz labs -- adire -- other mfrs...

bcae1.com is a good BASIC place (very basic) and is a good place to start if you are starting from scratch... The stuff they have on xover design is next to useless though other than for a stepping stone to try to figure out what *rly* is going on in a passive network...

If you have time I'd take the upper level entry physics sequence at your local university... OSU has an amazing physics program though so I don't know how representative it is but it was amazingly useful...

PS that tweeter is awesome for the price... as good as tweeters used in $300-400ish component sets -- could prolly find some more expensive examples that use a worse tweeter though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks for the info Ology. What little reading I did do last night was on bcae1. I was just looking to put a set of comps together to see what kind of sound I could get out of cheap stuff. Basically, to see if I can get as good of or better sound out of something DIY vs. store bought. (if that makes any sense)

Better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif -- or make you want to vomit... depending all on the design :p

Those are some of the best sounding tweeters that I've heard. They sound detailed and smooth. I'm using them right now. I can't wait to get my Dayton mids in.
