hey I was hoping you guys would help me out

I got a 2001 land rover discovery that Im trying to put a system in..

I Dont got too much money left but up to 500 bucks is possible at this moment so was wondering what you guys would recomend for that much and where to get it from, ebay or go to a store...

Im in seattle region so if you guys can recomend somethin there...

aright thanks

In my opinion the 1st thing and most important thing to get is a good HU. This is were your music will come from. Personally I like Panasonic HUs, they are good quality, look nice and not over price (http://www.ikesound.com about $200). Then I suggest getting a nice pair of components, like Infinity (ebay about $100-$150). This will be a good start. If you already have a pair of 6x9s or 6.5s then I suggest looking for a small 4 channel amp like a Profile 440 (ebay about $80). I'd wait a to get a little more money before investing in a sub and amp.

I was thinking since I dont know much about this stuff I would just go to one of those small car audio stores and get it all done there... just was wondering what to expect for that price...

shouldnt 1 12 be enaugh with a good amp though?

as for the HU, this is what I got in there right now

· 220 Watt Premium Audio System With Alpine® Head Unit With 12 Speakers Total; Cassette Player With Dolby® B Noise Reduction; 6-Disc CD Changer

· Subwoofer (small *** stock woofer)

so shouldnt that do it?

Theres no way the HU is powering all 12 speakers by itself. There must be a hidden amp under the one of the seats. My Eclipse came that way too. If you get decent sound from the speakers and they perform as loud as you like then why change them.

As far as the stock sub, I would switch it out. If you decide to go with just a sigle 12" sub I would get a ported box. Or if you go with 2 subs then a sealed box.

oh I get a decent sound but the thing is that the stock sub is all the way in the back and to hear it you have to turn it up all the way up which then sounds shitty and thats why I want an extra sub in there with an amp...

I was at a store today and their prices were outragous, some of the stuff you can get for 1/3 the price on ebay..

the guy in there did explain some stuff to me a little and said it would be better of getting a sealed box in an SUV

The sub needs to have its own amp. This way you can adjust the gain to were it will complement your other speakers and not over power them or in your case cause you raise your volume to the point of distortion.

For the most part the reason stuff is cheaper on ebay is because your buying from unauthorized dealers. You usually dont get a factory warrenty when you buy off of ebay.

Sealed or ported, its all about personal tastes. No one can really say one is better than the other. A ported box can get louder with less power than a sealed box. A sealed box takes up less space. There are pros and cons to each. It all depends on the type of bass you like.
