Hey Everyone,

I bought my Mb Quart RSD 216 Component set 2 years ago and now one of my tweets are damaged. The specs for the tweets are:

MB Quart RTC25

Ohms:6 Freq. Response:920 - 40k

Sensitivity:86 DC R:5.3

Fs:1650 Qms:1.91

Qes:2.66 Qts:1.11

Prms:80

I don't have the money for new speakers so I just want replace the tweeters with new ones other than quarts. I loved the clarity of the quarts but it was pretty harsh at times. Right now I am willing to go back with titaniums or silks, as long as it sounds good. I heard that if I matched the specs of the tweets close enough to the old tweets, it wouldn't change the crossover points. I don't know of many good tweets. Can anyone suggest a good 6 ohm tweet from cdt, peerless, etc thats $75 plus or minus (pref. minus )? I have a kenwood equilizer too if that matters Just throw me a list of tweets that you guys/gals know off and I'll check them out. Thanks.

I was going to check out northcreek d25 but I emailed them and they said it can't be used in car audio. And the other thing, the vifa and northcreek looks huge, too big for either my A pillar or sail panel. I don't have kickpanels so the only other place is the door panel //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Not sure how it would sound there.

You need to look for a "compact" tweeters from Vifa, Peerless, etc...cause yeah, home audio tweeters are like 4" in diameter.

Oh, and BTW, most home audio dealers will tell you that the speakers can't be used in a car. If you ever order something from Madisound, don't tell them it's for your car or they may not sell it to you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif (seriously) They are kinda touchy about it.....kinda like a "holier than thou" thing I think.

If you really want to find out for sure, ask them specifically why it can't be used.

I just might do that to F with them. Well I guess im looking for a 6 ohm compact dome tweeter that is known for quality and well built but not with a hefty price. Any suggestions there? Thanks for the replies so far.

^^^ I was actually looking into those Seas. I was also recommended the lpg 25nfa (silk) or 26na (aluminum) by a reputable member of another forum. Though the lpg's are 8 ohm tweets, he said that it should work fine so im looking into those also. I also read that the adire koda tweets were actually 6 ohm and not 4 so I would think the Scan Speak RDC2000 would be the 6 ohm since they are suppose to be somewhat identical. $12 per tweeter for the Scans is a hEll of a deal if they are truly 6 ohms.

Those are peerless, not scanspeak. And yes, the Koda tweets are modified versions of the Peerless RDC2000. From what I've seen Dan post in the past, they (Adire) had the RDC2000 modified for better off-axis response and a little smoother top-end frequency response (notice the huge peak from ~5K on up on the RDC2000 FR graph). So they aren't exactly the same, but the Adire tweet is definitely very close and is based off of the RDC2000.

http://speakercity.com/Peerless_files/rdc2000.shtml - But even peerless has them listed as being 4ohm, and a DCR of 3ohm.

And one last thing to watch out for when looking for a new tweeter is the Fs. General rule of thumb is that the tweet needs to be crossed over at a minimum of twice it's Fs. So, if you're components have a crossover point of 3khz (for example) and you buy a tweet with a Fs of 2khz (which would mean it needs a xover point around 4khz), then they may not work together well.
