Hi

My mate has a Vauxhall Corsa V reg

Recently he had my stereo stolen and had to replace, something happened when i put the replacement in and it caused the permanent live going to the stereo to burn out, there was a short somewhere.

I have a new stereo to go in but need to replace this wire as its too badly damaged, i have opened the loom behind the dashboard as much as i can with the little space for manuvouring there is and i'm not sure where this wire orginates from to replace it

any help will be apprciated, mate needs his tunes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks wjt

The permanently live wire you speak of is the constant 12v+ wire also known as the memory wire that makes it so your radio remembers the time/radio stations right?

It originates from the battery, you can run you a wire straight from there if you need to.

Make sure you run a decent size wire ( I would do no less than 12 gauge wire ) and fuse it at 10amps or so.

Yes it is the constant 12v+ wire.

Thanks for that, i was wondering if it would be ok to go straight to the battery, probably the easist option.

just out of interest normally it would go through the the fuse box wouldnt it? its annoying because i can go so far through the loom then there is about 18-20ins worth that i can't get too under the dashboad and all wires are fine out the other side, so i know the singed wire only goes that far

Thanks again for your help!

I can't understand why it didnt blow the fuse in the first place, and i can't understand why its done it, its only that one wire thats singed as well, maybe it just touched something and shorted, there has been some bodge job behind there with the previous owner, i will just make sure everything is insulted properly

thanks for all your help, any reasons as to why you think it has happened would be great, because it stumped me a bit!

if someone else got under the dashboard and started messing with wires, who knows what could have happened

pull the dash off if it isnt too difficult and take a look for any wires that may have been spliced into.

hot wire probably grounded out, but that should have blown a fuse to make it not burn up. this obviously didn't happen.

does that wire go to the fuse box, or straight to the battery?

I assume being its the standard wiring in there atm it goes through the fuse box, which is why i can't understand why it didnt blow the fuse, gonna work on it this weekend so we shall see what happens //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok, ive fitted the new wire, but no power on the head unit, all the other wires and fuses are intact, anyone got any idea what else could be the problem?

Thanks wjt
