Need to know the basics and a little more

I have a less than decent system now (two pioneer 10's and a rocksford fosgate amp and I used the stock deck because it was an 03) and i want to get a better one. I need someone to explain the basics to me like the relationship between the amp and subs in terms of the watts because i know practically nothing. Basically just explain this stuff to me as if i were a two year old. I want my system to bump because its really not loud at all and thats probably because of the amount of money i put into it (or lack there of).
