Need to do something cheap but decent quality... help please

so I really don't know much about car audio in general, but I have a 2010 Scion XB and everything is stock and sounds not good. I previously had an Infiniti w/ Bose system and was spoiled in comparison. I don't have a lot of money, but I really want to update the system.

The main thing I want to maintain is that the Ipod is controlled by the Ipod, not the head unit. Are their any headunits out there that do not require you to controll the ipod from the headunit while plugged in so it plays and charges at the same time?

Also, there is no bass at all in these cars. How can I get a decent bass level w/o compromising any storage space (I need to load all my bands gear frequently).

As fa as aftermarket speakers go, are their any "lower priced" brands that make good quality speakers that won't break the bank? I know its a lot to ask all at once but none of my friends are really into this stuff and Im lost trying to read reviews

Are you gonna try to install yourself? Not knowing much about car audio and a budget system may not work out for ya.

The learning curve can get very expensive especially on a 2010 model vehicle. Taking it in for a install is usually very expensive as well.

Depending on what kind of bass you want, you don't have to have a giant box for the sub or subs. Running 8" drivers seems to be popular. Some on these drivers will produce lots of bass with a small box and small mono amps.

On the HU, One option is just make sure it has a Aux input and run the Ipod headphone jack into the Aux input via a rca adaptor (stereo). I was not paying attention and got a mono cable instead of a stereo cable. As far as powering just use the car charger.

On the speakers, depends on what ya want. Lower price means different things to different people. But if you are going to install yourself you need to getting familiar with your doors, panels, mounting depth's etc first. At least what sizes your are looking for.

Do some searching on this forum for budget subs, speakers and amps - pick something that is your price range. Usually most of the budget stuff properly instilled will sound way better than stock.

Any more questions just post up - sure somebody will chime in.

Dont forgert about wire. If you add amps you are gonna need wire, fuses, rca cable etc.
