Need Sub Construction help

For my honors physics class we have to build a speaker as our midterm final. i figured since i have a T4 motor laying around i might have somethin fun. everything has to be hand built except the motor obviously. im making the basket out of wood with a fiberglass cone and a ton of rubber bands connected between the basket mounts and the place where the cone meets the vc as the suspension.

question time..the voice coil.

1. i plan on getting a 3" role of thin cardboard and wrapping it tightly in thin copper wire. what connects to the vc in terms of wires? the tinsel leads? and how do i determine if its a single 4 ohm or 8 ohm or any of that...?

does the basket have tons of stress put on it? like enough to snap mdf? may have to reinforce with glass then. i need audioholic in here..

Well to be honest, Ive never wound a voice coil by hand before. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif But I do know the final impedance of the coil is determined by the actual resistance of the wire in the coil. This means impedance will be detemrined by the material used (copper or alum), the diameter of the wire, and the number of windings.

Try emailing the guys over at Fi, tell them its for a school project, and Im sure they'd be happy to chime in with specific info for your frankenstein.
