Need some techs to speculate :

And if the price is really turning you off, you can always pick up a 15" SSD with copper coil for $215. The copper coil will give it SQ approaching the Q (Scott told me this himself), and fits in your budget. Plus, if you get 2 Type R 12s, you really need around 2kW to push them to their full potential. That means more expensive amp, extra batteries, more expensive wiring, and possibly an alternator upgrade. Plus, a box for a single 15 will be smaller than a box for 2 12s.

WOW I am about sold on a single Q //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I read some post about peoples FI Q , and what you just told me about what scott would do for you is simply fkn cool !

THAT kind of customer service is what makes one hell of a difference.

I really want SQ and SPL , and the FI Q seems to be the one that delivers both. I guess I am not necessarily going to need two subs but one subwoofer.

NOW can this subwoofer get in mid 130's ? also what is scotts phone number . I am very curious about taking my business with him through what I have read.

SPL level is about 80% install dependent. E-mail Scott at scott@ficaraudio.com

thanks for the comment "boy" I checked the specks on this beloved Q sub and did a comparison. Did you really do your home work, or are you just trying to sell this guy???? the L7 spected higher in every catagory.

New to here, in caraudio for over 10 years.

What "categories" do you speak of. High specs don't mean a better woofer. In fact, as certain specs go up, others can decrease. Even if that were the case, better on paper doesn't equal better performance. The Q was one of the best rated woofers in the Great 12" Challenge that was conducted by Big Bass Man on ROE. I have done a lot of research on many subs, and the Q is straight up great. Do a search, and you'll see I'm not just trying to sell him a Q. I have absolutely nothing to gain from his purchase of a Q, I'm just trying to help him out.

And if you really want to put your faith in specs, you might want to reconsider your statement. The Q has better pwoer handling, it has a very impressive Xmax, although Kicker doesn't even list an Xmax. In fact, Kicker lists very few T/S parameters, on their site or in the L7 manual, that would allow you to compare the two woofers at all.

Your right I don't always go just off the specs. I know of kickers xmax from the t plate construction is substantially heuge for a woofer. Were not talked about the misconception that most people have that x max is the peak to peak measurement that the cone travels either. I have talked to the rep about this, that is where I learned it. Kicker doesn't need to boast about there products as very few woofers out there can shut them down. Another thing about kicker that you will not find in any spec sheet is the true RMS rating. They had published incorrect RMS rating for the entire L series and CVX line. The actuall numbers are substantially higher for there rms ratings, and from what I'm told the clairity was there too at these extreme leavels. There speakers are truly underrated in every aspect. I currently do not even own a kicker speaker. I would like to, but I have had to drop my spl dreams to support my wife and kids. the only reason that I even posted a reply to your nubie was because I had found it so rude that I was offering my assistance to this person that had requested help, and you tell him to ignore me. You may know a thing or two about car audio, but do you really have to brag and give the impression that anything you say is going to be the best recommendation. Why don't you let this guy do the deciding. Let him do the research and make his own decision. I was just trying to offer a alternative solution, recommend a good all around woofer to this kid. Do you even have any substantial credentials as an installer, sales, competitor????

I'm sorry. I admit that my first comment in response to your post was rather harsh. It was wrong of me to assume that your low post count reflected a low amount of knowledge in car audio. I also was just offering what I believe is a great all-around woofer. The difference is that you will find more support on here for my suggestion than yours. Kicker does make good products, and I will never say otherwise. I just believe that the Fi Q is a better sub for the money. I will also admit that my knowledge comes mostly from the experience of others rather than my own. I am a 19-yr.-old college student, and have had niether the time nor the money to use and test a multitude of setups. However, I must also invoke the results of the Great 12" Challenge on ROE.

I also suggested the Fi Q because of the company and support that comes along with it. My personal experience with Scott shows me that he tries to please each individual customer much more than any company I have ever dealt with. More people than me will attest to this aspect of the company.

Both are great woofers. But I think that the Q is an overall better woofer for the money.

that's cool. I never have even heard of them until your post. I instantly looked up the link that you had posted and found what I have found. this site is dope for the one reason that people with questions can ask us old farts that have more knowledge than nuts at this point in life.

I installed professionally for 5 years, and did a few competitions as well. Sold for a few, managed a shop for a while. I have worked on 100's of systems from dam near every manufacturer that distributes across the west coast. I built several award winning systems, ( mostly for rich kid customers) and owned a few trophies my self. I'm over the my car hits harder than yours era, but still work in the industry and love car audio. I'm only on this site because it reminds me of the fun of the install bay. helping peeps figure out there systems, experimenting with new box configurations diagnosing problems, doing set ups.

Take it easy, and to the General. hope everything works out for you.

I hear ya. I just like to push some of the good upstart companies around here. Fi is kind of the boner around the Forums. But unless you are in an area where there are a lot of forum members, like SoCal or Florida, your chances of finding someone else running Fi is very slim. I just like to have a little individuality, and I can easily find someone around here running Kicker or Alpine. I just think it's cool that I can have a great product from and awesome company without people knowing exaclty what I have when they see it. To each his own.

he he he , now kiss and make up boys !

Truely after long thoughts about this.. here is my delima of the FI subwoofers and what I have always wanted !

I dont know if my 90amp Mercedes benz alternator is truely enough to push the Q ! Or if I am going to have to upgrade to an after market HOA which I want to stay away from untill I get my toyota 4 runner.

The X series seems absolutely perfect for what I want EXCEPT ! I want each sub to have DVC 1ohm voice coils. Not a single 4 ohm voice coil. If scott can do this for me then I am going to buy a pair of 12" FI X . This way I can stay around the 500Wrms range.

The second motive behind this is simple. My FAMILY ! My cousins are always boasting pyramid , and Duel eg:: cheap systems .. which they are always bragging about.. I once owned a mofo 12" , it pounded like hell off a hifonics brutus 1500D .. yet they knew nothing about why it wasnt LOUD audibly , it just vibrated the hell out of everything . I told them once , the subs im going to get next "YOUR AMP" will not be able to handle them. This said, I am meaning subs that are 1ohm or .5ohm loads .. So if trash talk comes to trash talk and they want to see for them selfs, I will hook up my 1ohm load subs to their cheapy 4ohm stable amp, and let them see their so called bad arse pyramid 1000W amp SMOKE as the transistors exceed their thermal power ratings. I am an electronics graduate , they are not .. but were close family so .. were always talking trash about our systems .. they knock on me because of my degree in electronics, and so I want to not only have a good quality system.. but show them the true meaning of EFFICIANCY !

All depends on how efficient your amp is. If you upgrade the battery, and do a Big 3 Upgrade, you should be fine running enough power for a single 15" Q. I have an Orion XTR Pro that only requires 8 gauge wire, so it won't draw very hard on the alternator. If you are interested, i may be willing to sell it. PM me if you want to work something out.

Which model of Xtr pro ? Also I got some subs I bought.. I havent even looked them up yet to see if I got my money's worth. their called Planet Audio .. ever heard of them before ?? They have like quad speaker connecters on them. I mean, these things are brand new looking //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I got them both with a box, 2.0cf a peice . I only paid 98$ for both of them, and the box. I bought them on a notion of remmembering something about planet audio is good I think. I dont know lol.. I just got to work and havent even looked them up yet. They say Planet Audio Vortex , and have a little metal looking emblam of like a planet with a nike sign.

but yes I may be interested in tha Xtr pro, depends on what these things take or what I got here.

The amp is an XTR Pro 1000. Underrated 1000w @ 1 ohm. I don't know what it puts out for actual wattage, as I don't know of any shi=ops around here that can do a full bench test. As far as the Planet Audio stuff oges, they've put out some good equipment, but I don't know much about their subs.
