Need some techs to speculate :

a lot of people have had problems with the aluminum cone separating frm the surround. Its because as the cone moves back and forth, the metal can fatigue alonge the edge of the surround, and it eventually breaks.

So how good are these FI subwoofers ?

I am going to have to check them out now, but comparing just one 15" subwoofer made by them to two R's or two db500 ? dont you get an aditional 3db gain just for having a second sub ? I know one sub can pound just as hard as two subs , ...BAHhhh .. I love single subwoofer setups personally //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif especially when they hit harder than two or three subs !

Also are they over rated , under rated or about rated ? So if I slam 1000 watts into it , will it take it ?

there also somone selling a 15" mag for 300 in the for sale forum. Not sure what gen it is tho. I owned a type very loud, sq was not there tho. Also power hungry and like 1.8-2.5 boxes, so if your saving room r's might not work. Cant comment on teh db500's since i havent heard em:(

good luck on your search

Fi's are pretty much the Forum boner right now. The SSDs are great for a daily triver setup, and several people on here have them and love them. Ngsm13 has owned both the Fi SSD, and the TC Sounds TC-1000. according to him, the SSD is superior in all ways.

As for the power handling, it all depends on how you set it up. If you get the copper coil, your SQ will be better, I wouldn't go over RMS spec for power. If you get the flatwind coil, you can increase power handling, but it won't have as good of SQ as the copper. In all honesty, i would go with the copper coil. You won't be able to tell much of a difference between 800 and 1000w. And even if you get a 1000w amp, after you set the gains right, it won't be putting out 1000w unless you crank it. A 1000w amp isn't putting out 1000w all the time.

As for single vs. dual sub setups. The 3dB gain thing is if you double the power, not the number of subs. Think of it this way: 2 10" woofers have around 157 sq. in. of cone area. One 15" woofer has around 176 sq. in. of cone area. 2 12s have about 226 sq. in. So 2 12s > 1 15 > 2 10s. As long as all other factors are the same.

Very true! I just want things to move around alott ! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and when the bass hits, I want it to punch you in the back ! sounds like an SQ setup right ? Is that what "Transient responce" is ? That punchy feeling and fast change of how the subs react to a new bass tone ?

Also is it possible to be over 135db's with a sealed enclosure ? this is allllllllllll I WANT ... I want to be mid 130's to high 130's at the least ! I see to many setups around 126db- 128 db's.

Anything is possible, you just have to build the right enclosure. If you want loud bass, but still want goo SQ, build a ported box and tune it to around 30-35 Hz. A ported box will get much more volume out of a sub with the same power.

Check out the kicker L5, it has all the capabilities that you are looking for, and a decient price as well. If you can swing it the L7. Its just a ba sub. clean, and sharp, but will also through down on the db side if you need it to. works really good in a folded horn enclosure, and I have herd 2 L7 12's in a sealed box in a jetta slam in the high 140's underpowered. read the specks on kicker.com. xmax (true x max ) will be higher than most on the market.

Best of luck.

Heh heh heh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I guess my wonder is .. since I havent heard anyone with a pair of Type R's , and am finding the " FI " to be popular because of scott whom I assume was a engineer \ designer for RE is now out on his own making his own subs which are these "FI" sub's is why they are so well liked. The type R's seem to be so popular , their hated for it ! I see vid's on these type R's and **** ! thats all I can say is ****.. for their cost they make things move ! So I need more votes on this topic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Because the R's are winnning me over in the vid's I watch. TCAB makes me drool over his 15" R .

Fi subs are popular because they have AMAZING build quality, you can deal directly with the owner (Scott), and they perform better than pretty much anything in their price range. The Type R is so popular because they are fairly cheap (Can be had for a round $100 apiece), and can get pretty dern loud with the right power (around 750-1000w apiece). The problem is that the Rs are pretty lacking in the SQ department. As an all-around sub, the Q pretty much owns the R.

Your selling me on the Q //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I do have to say one thing ! the very fact that those subs look so darn well built.. their just SEXY ! FI subs look incredible ! it's their cost that turns me away a little. A single 15" sub @ 230$ vrs two 12" subs that lack a little in the SQ department but have more cone space and are known for very high output is a hard decision. If I blow a sub , I hate having to go through crap to get it fixxed or replaced, and it usually has to come out of my pockett. So what makes Scotts Customer service worth the $$, and the product ? If I could get two of those FI for about 300$ ide do it .

Their not selling themselfs yet ... I need peeps with a FI to give me some output ! I know how much people hate the R's because everyone here has them " BUT NOT EVERYONE IN MY HOOD who bumps with pyle, and pyramid" LOL ..

But your doing a great job selling me on this FI subwoofer. I am just needing more input !

first off, Fi just has great customer service, bottom line. I needed a sub to fit behind the seat of my truck, but still wanted the performance of the Q. Scott offered to modify an SSD for me to get the performance and mounting depth i wanted. I ended up getting another sub built by a guy on these forums, but the fact that a company would offer to customize a sub for an average customer just amazed me. With the Rs, they can get loud or sound decent, not both. With the Q, you get the best of both worlds. And you mentioned you don't want to go through a bunch of crap to get stuff repaired if it breaks. To get the Rs at an affordable price, your warranty is pretty much non-existent. Whereas you get the Q mailed right to your door with a full manufacturer's warranty. Do a quick search on the Q, and you will see how much peopl love them. They did awesome in The Great 12" Challenge on ROE (CLICK HERE). For the extra cash, the Q is definitely worth it.
