need some help

I have a 97 camry and one of my stock speakers just blew the other day so I'm gonna buy a new set. The thing is all my dumbass friends recomend brands like audiobahn and sony, but I've been searchin around here for a while and I now see that they're garbage. And I decided since im getting new speakers I might as well get some decent bass too.

So, I've saved up a couple paychecks and I have a budget of no more than $600

I need:

Speakers- If I'm not mistaken I need 6x9s in the back and 6-3/4s in the front

Sub-I want to run a single 12, nothing too fancy, just some nice quality bass

Amp- I'm open to what ever you guys have to recommend

Box and other accessories I can take care of.

To answer some of the questions you guys usually ask for threads like this I listen to mostly rap music and someone will probably build the box for me and it will most likely be ported. I want to be able to impress people on how good my system sounds and not be like everyone else at my school and try to have the most bass even though they all sound terrible.

I'm open to any suggestions you guys may have since you seem to know your stuff.

$600 total for everything? That's a small budget, but no problem, that can be done.

Do you have a head unit? If not, I would recommend getting one. It will improve your sound immensely and it'll be much easier to add bass later. You can get some halfway decent Pioneer decks for around 125-150.

One speaker that's causing a lot of buzz here is the Phoenix Gold RSd. It comes in a component set, 6.5" for less than $100. I haven't used it, though I plan to get one around Christmas time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If you get the component set, you will want an amp to power it too. If you want to go this route (components + amp) I'm sure you can find a suitable amp for $100 or less, if you're willing to buy refurb. or used.

Don't worry about rear speakers.

Now for the sub and amp, this might run you a little more. For your budget, you're probably looking at 1 10" or 12". I have JBL GT/GTO series subs, and while not mind blowing they are alright for the money. Others I have heard that are alright and can be had cheap: Kicker Comp VR, the cheaper Pioneers (blue ones that take 300-400w rms)...there are quite a few ways to go. The entry level Phoenix Gold subs are recommended a lot, but I've never heard one so I can't give you an idea how it sounds.

Does this give you any ideas? I'll try to think of some more...

Thats a good head unit to start with. To stay within your budget you can get a good name brand but their lower end product line, they will still be worlds better than stock speakers and cheap enough to stay within your budget. I'm not going to recommend and ONE brand. I'm sure others will chime in with their favorites.
