Need some help with my type r's and hifonics amp. what would you do?

People get their Type R's loud with a clean 1000WRMS for the pair. You'll most likely get ~800WRMS from the Hifonics amp. They're slightly over rated. Push both of them with the 1000D or sell both of the 12's get a Dual 2 15" R and run it ported.

what he said^

but if u really want to see those R's shine put them in a ported box and tune it anywhere from 32hz - 36hz.

Sell the amp, get a Clarion DPX11500. It will do 1,500 rms @ 1 or 2 ohms. Just hook it up to both subs @ 2 ohms, and have 750rms a sub. Build a ported box and you would be set.

Cheap amps for what you get.

Well if the R's will sound alright only taking power from the 1000d I'll try that out and see how it sounds. I'm planning on a 2.4 ft^3 sealed box (1.2 ft^3 each) for the back of my 2000 sable LS (people say the type r's sound better with a box bigger than the recommended 1.0 ft^3 per sub).

Well I would try a ported box except to get good sound quality from them it is generally said that you need to have someone build it for your setup instead of using a stock store-bought one. And while I have the intelligence and resources to construct such an enclosure, I do not pretend to have the experience or knowledge of how to do so. And I'm not going to pay someone the little money I have to build me a wooden box.

No need to pay someone...use these plans given in the Enclosure section...this is just one i picked you can use any size ya want...but id like this one at least:

Cut it and screw together

Hmm that looks pretty nice. Does that mean I dont have to worry about tuning the box to however many Hz (one of the things I have NO idea about)? And just out of curiosity...would it be more efficient to port a box for two subs on both ends? or divide them into their own halves and port both halves? I know it would be a little more difficult but would it be worth it?

I'm assuming you can't "strap" random amps... Am I right? Also IF you are running two amps you will be running each sub @2ohms...
Oh, BTW: Type "R"... SQ???? why?

with a maxx-link you can strap virtually any of the two same amps together.

lol......more like 500 watts after reactive loads and voltage drop come into affect.

lol so PSturmer i'm guessing you think powering them both with the 1000d is a stupid idea? I'm beginning to think everyone sees it that way... And thanks for the suggestion of 2 cubes each miker sounds like a good size for a ported box. My Sable has a huge trunk so space really isn't an issue. Although trying to tune a wooden box to 34 Hz means nothing to me... It's kind of like a different language at the moment.

if your on a budget your forced to power it with that single amp. if you do decide to do two type R's off 1000 watts then i'd make the box 2.5 -2.75 cubes. i have found at 2 cubes they can take the most power for daily driver and can get loud at lower hertz.

Well like I said It's only going to cost me another $60 or so to upgrade to the 1500W bx1500d...so if I can get a significant improvement in performance from that switch ill do it (sorry if I sound stubborn about it). Would that change the dimensions I would want for the box? PSturmer I'm assuming you mean 2.5 - 2.75 cubes for the entire ported box? As in 1.3 each or so?
