Hey guys. I can't do car audio anymore due to not having a car because college is soo **** expensive, so I am thinking about getting into some home audio. I know that I am not going to get the same amount of bass due to room size and whatnot that I would from a car setup, but what is a decent entry level system for home audio that will give me something. I have the little b/s 5.1 surround with a 6.5 sub right now, some 50$ kmart crap and I'm looking to upgrade. But being in college, the budget is a little more limited on this than it was on the car audio system. Before I took off out here I was running an RE SE XXX 12 in a slot port 32 hz, off a jbl bp1200.1, couple component setups off a 4 channel, in a little hatchback, man do I miss it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif . Looking to spend a few hundred on a home setup and get something with some kind of bass to it. Maybe like 100-300. It will be used for movies, tv, and music from an ipod. NOt really sure what to get, powered subwoofer, home theatre in a box, build my own setup??? Just looking for some input, and didn't see any stickys so making this. I'm going to do a search after this and see if I have any more luck that way. But yeah any info would be greatly appreciated. I really don't know much of **** when it comes to home audio. Thanks in advance for the help, info and advice. - Sampson

home audio is more expensive then car audio...

100-300 is not gonna get you anything that compares to your 12" something like 1,000-1,500 will depending on room size

Could you recommend some type of like home theatre in a box setup. I've seen some on ebay pretty cheap. I was thinking something along the lines of a setup like this I have seen for around 100$ shipped.

SO yeah appreciate the post, but I just don't have that much money to spend on this, college is F****** expensive.

....Just saw the second post from 1loudsuv, so would any of the ones I listed even be worth getting? Or would it just be a complete waste of money?

So played around with some stuff, and found my roomate had a little setup in his closet. So we hooked it up and it sounds fine to me. It is a pioneer vsx-305 hooked up to some optimus and KLH speakers. So what reciever like that could you guys recommend that would push some towers good. I want something more powerful than the pioneer vsx-305, it does ok, but I want more power. Maybe in the range of 400 watts, or more. Also would I be able to hook a powered subwoofer up to something like this receiver for more bass if I needed it?

I want a setup like this but with better stuff. I want some towers, with a sub, mid, and tweet in each, for the fronts and something like the speakers pictured in the ebay auction for rear. Does that sound like it would work ok?

Thanks for the input, and recommendations on a roughly 100$ deck.

1) You don't need 400W unless you're driving electrostats or open baffle speakers. That's a lot of power.

2) $100 won't let you touch anything that does a true 400W per channel...

No sh** 400 watts per channel would be expensive as all hell, I'm not a complete idiot man, I meant 400 watts total. 100X4I've looked around a bit and know somewhat the price ranges of receivers and what to expect for 100$, I just want a good brand name and model for around 100$.

Something like "Oh the pioneer vsx-816 is the shit , that is what I used when I started out, its about 3 years old but its a sweet receiver, or something like that". Or oh yeah jvc shit sucks don't buy it, it's overpriced and not worth it. Even a link to a good home audio review site so I can read the reviews myself would be cool, I've read a few already. So can you recommend a receiver, or not? Thanks in advance.
