I've been using a single Kicker Solobaric VS10L7 4ohm pushed by a Hifonics Brutus BXi1508D. The sub is dvc and wired for 2ohm and the amp is rated 1000 watts @ 2ohm. The amp is stable down to 1ohm @ 1500 watts. The box is ported and looks exactly like this but 10" instead of 12" Kicker 12 " Solobaric Subwoofer in Ported Box Model 08VS12L7 2 Ohm Price Drop 713034055037 | eBay

I am getting used to the bass and now wanting higher spl. I would like some recommendations on sub brand/model and box dimensions/design. The max box size has to be 30w x 14h x 15d

budget for sub I would say around 500 (excluding box of course). I would like to get the full potential out of the amp so looking at 1ohm. My car is practically brand new so I didn't mess with any electrical upgrades except swapping for a bigger ground wire from battery to chassis. And yes I just want higher spl. Btw I am not opposed to getting another amp but only if necessary.

Ok what you need is a efficient amp

Get rid of the hifonics most cars can take 2000 rms with just a big 3 kit and big agm battery under the hood So fending in your area. A pair if 12s or nice 15 would yield great results if done right. I did a single hdd 15 in the wife's truck on 4500 rms and it's pounding like crazy. We were at a db drag show all weekend and she was bass racing the 139.9 class with no issues what so ever Actually with ease in fact

What amp do you recommend? I don't think I can fit 12s or a 15 in my limited trunk space. My car is the Cadillac CTS Coupe.

VFL looks promising however I cant seem to find a HO alternator for my 2012 Cadillac CTS coupe. Will just upgrading the 3 cables suffice?

It may be fine. You won't know until the amp and sub are installed tho. I'm also a singer alt rep. Just sold 2 350 amp alts for an escalade so I can help you there to. Since this is a discussion forum I can't quote prices. So if you are interested in the alt, amp , and or sub send me a pm

My bad I thought I upgraded the cable from battery to chassis on this car but that was done on my previous car. I just checked the OEM cable from battery to chassis and it says 2 gauge. The red cable going into the battery looks the same size so I am guessing that's coming from the alt and also 2 gauge. Does this mean I don't need the big 3 upgrade?

You can get louder without going to a ho alt, or even a new amp.. That L7 isn't that amazing, just changing subs can be a good increase, especially if you drop that amp to 1ohm. I'd start with a new sub, new box, and a 1ohm load. After you get all that hooked up THEN I'd worry about a bigger amp. That amp is a bit overrated, and may not do a full 1500, but it will still come close to doubling power from where it is now, which should be good for 2-3db's, especially if you get a nice sub that can handle 1500 watts comfortably. Upgrading to a bigger amp will cost as much as the sub, but likely give you less of a gain overall.

Thanks that's good advice. I was thinking of going with a pair of Tantric HD10's and later get a VFL 4480. So what are your thoughts on my big 3? Will my OEM 2 gauge suffice?
