Need recommendations, installing an audio system in a 1968 Charger

New here, I am in the process of restoring a 1968 Dodge Charger and would like to know what you guys/gals recommend on the audio system. I was a big fan of the rockford fosgate stuff back in the day and picked up some old punch amps a few years back to use. I would like to keep the stock radio in place and install a new head unit in the glove box. I would need to control the unit using some type of remote and would like to have ipod control as well. It's been a long time since I have done any audio installs and not sure what is available. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I had an old Kenwood head unit, preamp outputs only from the mid 90's. Not sure what the model number was but installed the faceplate inside a stock 68 charger am radio so can't see it unless the radio is powered up. I may still install this unit wondered what new options are available.

If you want to stay stock, do you want the stock look of the radio? On my 66 GTO I sent it in to have them update the internals. It was AM only, now is AM/FM with an RCA input for my zune. I got a good speaker wire to aux adapter to hookup my amps.

Most of the classic cars I've seen that are trying to look stock do as you said, leave factory stuff in place and put aftermarket in the glovebox. Most stuff these days has remote, so with glove open you could control it with the remote and pretty much everything has ipod interface, but I think they pretty much all control the ipod, not the other way around.

If you're very clever you can probably mount the chasis of a HU in your glove (something with removeable face) and build your own ribbon cable extension to mount the face in the visor or someplace else where you can control it.

Also like the idea of having your factory HU modded to have good RCA outs and aux in for your ipod.

Old RF amps are pretty solid and look nice. Go ahead and use them. RF makes some reasonably decent subs and components as well if you want everyting matching. Do post a build log here once you get into it.

The fitted the Kenwood faceplate into the stock radio and used a cable to install the unit in the glove box. Installed a fiber optic cable so I could control the radio since the rf receiver wasn't accessible in the stock radio. It also has a cd changer cable, I'm thinking there has to be way to utilize this cable for playing the ipod but don't have a wiring diagram. I spent quite a bit of time on doing this but it was 4 years ago and just looking at some of the new stuff. I also had a clear decal made that looks like the stock am radio station tuner. This way it looks pretty much stock until you turn on the radio and it comes on underneath the clear decal.

I'll get my stuff out and get some numbers

I have two punch60 dsm amps and one punch 200 dsm. Found the head unit, it's a KDC-9000. No speaker level outputs on this, just three sets of preamp outputs.

As for goals I tend to listen old school stuff, mostly hip hop stuff so some good subs for sure. I'm not sure what I am gonna do in the front. I can put some 6x9's in the rear deck. The car only had one speaker centered in the dash from the factory. Thinking about putting some speakers in the kick panels.
