Need new speakers

02 Civic LX sedan - stock speakers and head unit

I am going to get this hu - Pioneer DEH-P6800MP

and i also want an amp to power the speakers but i don't know what i should get.

I was thinking about either getting the CDT Audio CL-61A - CDT Audio Classic 6.5" 2-Way Component Speakers for the front with the CDT Audio CL-6X - CDT Audio Classic 6.5" Coaxial Speakers in the rear

or

just 2 sets of the CDT Audio KA-61 - CDT Audio Kama K-Series 6.5" 2-way Components for the front and rear.

My real questions are do these make sense? Is the first choice even reasonable (mixing different speakers?) and i think people usually use components for the front because they have a sub in the trunk but i won't so is it alright to have them in the rear too?

do the first option, it's definately the better choice. you don't need components all the way around

X2 If your going to put anything in the rear. Put some midbass and a sub.

I'd use the rear setup for either nothing or a small midbass(like stated above). For the front though I would look into D/L/S, Focal, Seas or a DIY setup. You can usually put together a setup that is as good if not better than the CDTs.

I'm going to follow suit with the recommendations given thus far.... ditch the rear component proposal and either

1.) stuff some midbass speakers back there

2.) put a sub in the trunk

3.) midbass speakers and a sub

That's the only way you're going to get good imaging and front soundstaging with front components. The second you go comps all the way around is the second you destroy the front soundstage....Not something that's generally preferred by a lot of people, but I have seen it done.

What's your ballpark budget for the following items?

1.) front comps

2.) rear speakers

3.) sub

4.) amp(s)

5.) misc wiring, parts, nicknacks, possible labor, etc.

We'll be able to better help you with as much info as you can kindly provide.

Dude your in omaha. For sub and amps look into treo you might be able to get good deals factory direct. They are expensive but a **** good product.

Yeah, I've been to Metro Audio Dynamics (where Treo originated) quite a bit checking to see if they ever have any specials. Not much unless you're budget isn't really limited.

Unless you want Treo just for the name, I personally feel there are better deals out there on comparable goods. Don't get me wrong, I've heard a lot of Treo stuff and they are amazing. Right now i don't want a sub and if i got one i would get a separate amp for it so this setup is just for the 4 speakers.

I'm going to say i have about $100-$150 for the 4-channel amp but i'm not sure which one to get. It doesn't have to be the greatest just something that would work well with this setup.

Also, when recommending the amp can anyone also point me towards all the things i will need to make this completely work? If all i need is an amp kit will this be sufficient?

The rears you chose should work great.

As for an amp, if you can dump $25 more into the budget, you can go with this Infinity amp:

Or if that's too much money for you, check into the Power Acoustik LT series (millionbuy is a good place to shop for this). Also hit up the classifieds here and eBay for other amp possibilities.

The only reason is because from the few forums i asked these questions to many linked me to the CDT's. Everyone says they perform well and no one else has directed me towards anything else. They seem promising but i'm open to any suggestions that are equal to CDT's or greater (but obviously in the same price range).

Well first which front set would you recommend out of the bunch that we have here?

CDT Audio KA-61 - CDT Audio Kama K-Series 6.5" 2-way Component set

Kicker KS6.2 05KS6.2 KS-Series 6" Component System

MB Quart DSF216 DSF 216 6-1/2" 2-Way Component System

If there's not much of a difference i'd rather go with a set that is $100 so i'm guessing the MB Quart's would be the best to choose from?

I'd say flip a coin between the Kicker KS's and MBQ DSF's. Either should better provide what I've read a lot of complains on the Kama's - low end midbass. Your call, ultimately. Best bet would be to visit some shops and audition some sets. You might stumble across a Pioneer or an MTX set and fall in love, afterall.

Next step would be to contact Kicker product support and make sure the SSMB6's will fit in the rear openings of your Civic without modifying anything (they are 6.75 vs 6.5).

I would try and persuade you further to consider ditching the rears and go with a sub over all other options, as no midbass will produce the bottom end thump and punch like a sub will. The 8" Solo is a great compromise between SPL and SQL and would work sweet with a variety of music. I have one of these myself and I personally know people that work at some of the local shops aroound here that have 1 or 2 of them for both SPL and SQL systems. These little bastards never cease to amaze me, and I've yet to hear a bad sounding setup with them.

You can always add rear speakers and a separate sub amp later if you still feel you need more afterwards. If the vented box ends up being something you don't like or is too big, then you can transfer that sub into a custom smaller and rather inexpensive sealed box.

On Crutchfield.com it says all i need is the adapters that they sell so yes 6.75's should fit.

I deffinitely didn't misinterpret your intent at all. You are easily the most helpful person i've run into out of about 5 different car audio forums. Thank you very much for all the suggestions and info.

I really did want a sub or 2 at first... but the reason i just got the civic is because College is coming around the corner and i need a reliable car that i can depend on and i didn't want to end up filling the trunk with audio equipment when i might need the space for more important things. I'm going to keep checking these products out and probably come up with a decision within a week or two so i might change my mind about the sub.

If i do go with the sub do you think i would NEED to get dynamat? That's another reason why i didn't want to deal with a sub because i didn't want my car to sound like shit because it was rattling so much.

Ditch the 680MP and step up to a 880MP. Get rid of the front CDT and get a set of Image Dynamics Chameleons or Build yourself a front set with Dayton mid and Seas Tweeter. Then throw a DD W6.5 in the rear for some thump.

Find some matching amps to power all of this and you are golden imho.
