Need more mid bass and some advice on how to go about it

Well I understand getting it quiet in the cab would help alot. That being said it's never gonna be completly quiet in my application. Reason I'm leaning towards speakers is I don't have enough mid bass even sitting not running which is as quiet as it's ever going to be.

You don't have a sub yet, right? If you're just looking for that extra kick, stick the sub into a sealed enclosure. Though you should really deaden the doors.

No no not against it. I'll do that. I was just trying to make the point that it's never gonna be a quiet interior. Very loud tires loud engine not the quietest trucks to ride in Stock to begin with. So I'm gonna have to fight with the noise atleast some.

First, can you fit an 8" driver in your door? If not, where is it going?
Ya it would be tight but it could work. Or on the simpler side of things what about a good set of 6.5 components and just use the Kenwood 729s I already have? Would that be able to give me some decent midbass?

You'd be surprise what mass loaded vinyl can do man. Your loud truck will be almost like a bmw once proper deadening is done.

Midbass requires 3 things, good speakers, good acoustical environment/proper seal and proper power. Missing any of those will result in poor/sub optimal midbass performance.

When you say you can fit an 8, does that mean you can fit it without any gaps or holes or will it be a wierd fit?

All I have in the doors right now are some cheap Kenwood 3 way 6.5s. Just wondering if I would be happy by just replacing them with a component setup
I think you're too anxious, but it's understandable. Take it one step at a time and don't be in a hurry to spend more money. If you're going to deaden anyway, do it. Some speakers have inherently more midbass than others, this is true. Just hate for you to be in the same situation after having spent money on a new set. If you deaden and you're still lacking the midbass, CDT has drivers enhanced for that.

midbass response in the cabin requires a rigid, airtight seal between the door cavity and the cabin. the sheet of plastic acting as a watershed is not adequate. many installers forget to recreate the seal between the speaker and the door panel - resulting in a gap that allows sound from the rear of the speaker to cancel with sound from the front of the speaker - the result is midbass that has so much cancellation it isn't audible. I've treated doors differently over the years but what has remained constant is my use of seals around the speaker, sealing against the door panel. even if you do nothing to the door itself, simply creating a seal around the speaker will get you more midbass.

you can see how i treat doors for speakers in these build logs

This install is a good example of a basic setup without a sub. This build doesn't need a sub - the doors dig deep.

this is my recommendation for any door speaker install (basic to SQ)
