Need More Bass

Since getting back into car audio 12 months ago I've had a lot of fun but now it is time to have even more. I currently have a DD 2512 in a 2.2/ft3 box designed by Tyler and built by me. I'm pushing it with a MBQuart Onyx 1600. That should mean I have 1600/watts RMS @ 1ohm. This is in a Lexus GS300. I have not yet upgraded my electrical and am running 4 gauge, I believe.

When I first got this set-up I noticed the dustcap getting pretty warm and things getting a little stinky. I backed off the gain and have been happy since. But now I'm looking for some more bass and I'm wondering what is the best route. I suppose I could turn the gain up but I'm not sure if the DD can handle that power without melting.

Aside from just turning the gain up I am open to upgrading the sub + box combo. I listen primarily to Rap/HipHop but the box can't get too much bigger. I don't think I can fit a pair but I am open to spending some cash on a new sub but It's got to translate into a clear upgrade.

Basically, yes.

I would go for a 15 if I could squeeze it in - the box is limited to height = 14.5" and width=30" and it is currently 14.5" deep IIRC. I could go deeper by maybe 6" but that wouldn't help much to fit a 15" because there wouldnt be enought mounting surface so a 12" seems most reasonable.

The 2512 is dual 2ohm.

yeah i have the same sub and running about 1200 to it. Im very happy with it once i made the right box(2.65ft3 at 36Hz)

I dont think your going to gain much by getting another 12. I think your best bet would be to talk to Mobile Enclosures and get a design.

maybe send that sub in to be rebuilt as a ten and get another 2510 to match. then run two 2510s in 2.5-3cubes ported.

Most times increasing your power in a well designed box, and subwoofer that can take it for the most part translate into an increase.

or you can get a 9512 and better amp.i know where you the sub, with a fresh recone for a decent price,and throw 2500 watts or more at it. but you'll need to upgrade the electrical
