Need Major Help!!!

Hey guys,

I just turned 16 and am getting my sister's 1984 volvo 240. Right now it has a cd player and 4 speakers... but it sucks...

I think the best way to go would be to put in all new stuff. What would be the best way to go to get a full sound system and how much do I need to spend to make it decent?

is the front speaker high in the door? and its like a 4 inch. well i made a wood ring and put carpet on it. mounded that to the door. then i was able to fit a 5.25 in there. then you can do somthing of the same to the back speakers. having a strong baffle or mount for the speaker will give you better sound, then you can find a nice amp to power everything.

what size are the speakers? what kind aof cd player is in it right now?

probably the easiest solution would be a nicer set of coaxial speakers with a smaller 2 or 4 channel amp for them, along with some deadener and a head unit with some decent crossover controls. apline tends to be a good basic choice.. eclipse, pioneer, maybe kenwood/panasonic..

the best solution would be component speakers for the front (even if you just stick with coaxials for rear fill).. but these can run you anywhere from around $ 100 to a few thousand.. it all depends on what youre lookign for.. do some research. you would have to probably custom mount them since the volvo is older. kick panels would do the job though.

and of coarse a sub adds nice depth to any kind of music. one 12 would work nicely.. but depending on your music taste you might be after more, bigger, etc.

theres no set budget for a decent system. give us a ballpark. tell us whether you have a couple hundred or a couple thousand. "decent" sounds way different for different people. to me it doesnt take much, to audiophiles, it could take more than youre looking to get into

What kind of CD player is it? I'm guessing what you want is more bass, so the first thing I would do is get yourself a sub and an amp for it, then see what you think from there.

the doors have 4 inch pieces of crap pioneers and there is no room for anything bigger... in the back i put in some jbls that i won for free on the internet... might be decent if they werent so distorted (they have mid range speakers and tweaters). My lovely audio system is powered by a pioneer 4 x 25 watt cd head unit that came with the car when i bought it.

I would love to get out of this deal for $400... but i might spend up to $600.

To me I would rather have smoother, richer sound quality than thumping bass
