Need input on Subs up Port Side Box (pix)

I've been designing a 4.1 ft^3 box tuned to 38hz for 2 12" AQ HDCs using an 8" sonotube.

This box will be subs up port to the side.

The main thing i am concerned about is that i only have ~ 5 1/2" of space from the port opening to the side wall of the SUV. I also just want some input on whether the bracing will work how i have it (using 1.5" dowels) and if there is anything obvious from the pics that i should change.

The outer dimensions are 21hx15dx35w. I am also considering adding a second baffle on top (to flush mount the subs).

Thats plenty of space for the port to breathe, double baffle would be a good idea considering the weight of the subs and size of the box.

i had a box for 2 15" BTLs that was subs up slot port out the side and it worked fine, there are a couple pictures of it in the link im my sig

not sure, just lookin @ options. lately i've been changing it up pretty frequently (had those aqs in for less than 2 months...)

I might redo my current box for the 10"s as well and try a sub up port side box.

I definitely like the sound of the alpha's, but i'm still wanting a little more output. Not sure if i'm just going to redo the box or if i'm going to change up the setup altogether.

I might try aeros, although i've really been itching to try hdcs...

Try the same kind of design for the 10's. Maybe you'd get the output you want, and wood is a little cheaper than 2 new subs.

thats the key word, i already got 45sq in of port area on the current box, and i've never tried a side firing box, so i'm not sure if it will be any louder with the same subs.

nevertheless, diregarding my current setup, any more opinions on the design in the first post?

Box looks good, bracing looks fine, the sono will have plenty of room. With that airspace and that distance, those subs will take a lot of power.... I'd say flush mount em like you said, thats all i see as a problem.
