I am getting ready to install a system in my 86 Pontiac Fiero GT.
I am quite limited on space so I have decided to go with one 4, 5 or 6 channel amp.
I will only be running three channels. A set of Infinity Perfect 6.1 seperates up front and a a pair of DVC 12 inch subs behind the seats. I still have not chose the subs since I havent decided on the amp at this time. I have been looking mainly at the Pioneer shallow mounts, althought they are not a DVC still one of the better looking subs as far as the specs go. I have also been looking at the Infinity Kappa's, Rockford shallow mount, Kicker shallow mount and a couple others. I have been leaning more towards the Infinity Kappa's after getting to hears them a few days ago. They seemed to have a little better sound to them than the Pioneers, but alot of that can be the enclosure as the Pioneers where in a factory made box that appeared to be quite small, when compared to the recommended volumes for that sub.
In any case the front channels must be able to except a 2 ohm load as the Perfects are 2 ohms. The sub channel I would prefer to be able to go down to 1 ohm but could get away with a 2ohm stable operation.
My current list of amps:
Kicker ZX700.5 (good price but a little light on the sub power. Would like to see around 500-600 rms at 2 ohms)
Memphis Belle 16-MCH600 (Another nice looking amp but the front end isnt stable to 2 ohms and the sub output is again a little less than I want. It is a little pricey when compared to the Kicker as well.)
Memphis Belle 16-MCH1300 (Love the power specs on this amp but dont like the fact it is only 4 ohm stable when bridged. The power output would be almost exactly what I want for my highs and subs if it could handle the load. Again a little pricey compared to the kicker but twice the power, according to the manufacturers specs)
Audiobahn A4125HCT (Before anyone goes there, I am not looking at this amp because of the Bling. The specs on the amp are exactly the power I am looking for!!! I however have seen them endlessly bashed on different boards for being a poor quality built amp. I have to question this after finding a neat site http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/ I saw a pictures of the bigger brother to this amp and it looks to be of a good quality build. This being one of the higher end AudioBahn amps what are peoples opinions? Please no they **** just because they are AudioBahn. If you feel that way fine but give a detail description as to why they ****, technical facts to back up your opinion is greatly appreciated as well.)
Audiobahn A4075HCT (Not another AudioBahn amp?!?! Yes another one. This amp isnt my desired power rated amp but the price is lower and the power ratio between the front and the sub channels is the same as the 4125. This is the main reason for it being included in this list.)
In conclusion. I appreciate any information you maybe able to give. I am looking for a multi channel amp that is stable to 2ohms for my seperates and between 1-2 ohm stable for my subs. I would prefer around 175-250 watts for the seperates and 500-600 watts for my subs.
I would like the amp to stay around the $500-600 mark or less.
If you feel the above amps arent a good choice please feel free to list other amps you think will meet my needs. Again I perfer this to be a single amp installation as I dont have the space for multipal fuse blocks, grounding blocks, seperate amp trays, etc... A single amp install will be much easier on me with the small size of my car.
Thank you for any and all information you maybe able to share.
