Need Improvment?

I have a Hifonics BXI 2006 powering two 12in type R's. My buddy says if i want my subs to get louder i need to upgrade my amp. The amp is supposed to push 2000 watts. I know its over-rated but shouldnt it be enough for these subs? Would upgrading my amp improve my subs?

gonna need a little more info to help. what load are you running the amp at? how is your electrical system holding up? do you have voltage drops? with box rise your subs are not seeing 1000w a piece. is your box sealed or ported? if you want a lot more output, port the box.
