Need Help!!

i got a new stereo from my cousin, a sony..and he said he could install it for me but when he took the old stereo out it was all weird...there were 2 different sets of wires and we tried to connect em around but it didnt work. we ended cutting and taking out alot of the wires and forgot the original setup. becuase we found out that the black wire(the ground wires i think) was missing from the wiring harness. we asked some guy and he said just connect it to something metal but i really didnt get what he meant can someone please help

1) You should've purchased a wiring harness.

2) IF the black wire is the ground, you can ground it to the car frame; Except realize that it sounds to me like the black wire you're talking about, is in-fact the wire that's already part of the car - in which case connecting it to something metal won't do anything at all.

3) RTFM. Read the manual.

A wiring harness (maybe $12 at pepboys) will have a chart on it that tells you about the wires.

If you already hacked your factory harness up ( which is a no-no in general ) then search the internet for a diagram.

the12volt.com will have it.
