Hello all,

I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra. Received an Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 component set. This will hopefully be powered by an Eclipse 36401 amp. I currently have an Infinity Basslink subwoofer in there as well.

My question is: What would be the best location as far as trying to get imaging proper in this truck. I was going to put the Kappa Perfects in the stock speaker locations up front: the midrange in the lower part of the door and the tweet in the upper part of the door but have heard this is not optimal for staging and imaging.

Have seen others mount mid in kickpanel, mid and tweet in kickpanel, and only tweet in kickpanel. Which of these would be best? Have heard someone achieve good results mounting only tweet ion kickpanel..

Also is there anywhere I can have the kickpanel made or possibly buy a prefabbed one??

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Kickpanels are generally the #1 location for good imaging/etc. Place both the mid and tweeter in the kickpanel if at all possible.

With a lot of processing, stock locations can work....but you'd also need to run active instead of passive.

Also is there anywhere I can have the kickpanel made or possibly buy a prefabbed one??
Check with your local dealer. But custom kickpanels will cost an arm and a leg (possibly $500+ for a good set from a reputable installer/shop). You can check with Q-Logic and see if they make any Qforms for your particular truck. But if you went the way of Qforms, you'd need to do some work to reinforce them aswell.

There are no prefabbed kick panels available for you truck. If you want to make your own kick panels there are a lot of "how to" articles on the net and there are a couple of threads on this forum. And if you can afford it any reputable stereo shop can make you a set. If you decide not use the kick panels I would suggest the stock door location and mount the tweeter as close as possible to the woofer. I don't like separating the tweeter and woofer so I never use the sail panels. A lot of guys on here do use this setup and like it so it's a matter of personal taste.

Thanks for the useful feedback...

Definitely appreciated. 6spd.. I live in Elizabeth.. Thanks for the offer and I will most likely send you a pm once it gets warmer and I am ready for the install..

as far as the stock locations go, there should definitely be enough room for the mids and tweets.. Just wondering if it wouldnt be more beneficial to have them in a kick panel or have the tweeter mounted closer to the mid.

As far as mounting the tweet to the mid goes, does it need to be angled or can it just be mounted flush with the door??

Squeak.. as far as processing goes.. i have seen other crossovers for sale on ebay and such.. would i be better off going that route to get the most out of my speakers? or would it be better to leave the crossovers out for the install and instead wire up the amps to my pioneer p860mp headunit. from what i have read it has dsp builtin and has 13band eq and all that??

thanks again all..
