Need help with power cable

Hey guys im new here and any help would be great.

At the moment im installing a stereo in my new car and was wondering what the best size power cable for this setup is-

Head unit- Sony CDX-L460X - 4x45w

Components- Sony XS-HL535- 150w

6x9's- Sony XS-GT6933- 200w

am i supposed to use one of the big red power cables or are they just for amps?

if i am whats the best way to connect it to the rather thin power wire on the back of the headunit? or can i just use any wire (say headlamp wire) that is the same guage as the back of the headunit? any help would be good!

now why the hell would you want constant power? your radio wont turn off when your car does and it'll just drain your batteries dead unless you use a relay. and it would be much easier to just use the ignition switch.

im not sure, the manual says hook up one to the ignition switch and to a direct source of power, otherwise when i turn off the key i lose the settings and clock on the head unit. i have tried hooking it up to the cigarette lighter power but the same thing happens because its not powered until the key is turned

why dont you just buy a wiring harness? do you know for a fact that the original stereo didnt have a constant power in? if not why wouldnt the original stereo not lose its settings but your new one would. have you even tested it with a harness yet?

Stateside most every car on the road can be fitted with an aftermarket adapter that connects a non-standard stereo wire directly into the same factory harness behind the dash that the OEM stereo used. I do not know if such a thing is available to you but give one of the stereo shops over there a ring and one of their installers should know.

Barring that you'll need to find both a switched and a constant power source for that Sony head unit. The constant input (yellow wire on the Sony's wire harness) will allow the radio presets to retain memory, the clock, your EQ settings, etc etc. The ignition-switched power source (red wire on Sony's harness) will make the stereo turn on and off with the key. If an factory harness adapter is available to you under normal conditions the wiring already in place is sufficient to run a HU. You really don't need the bigger size cabling until you plan on adding a component amplifier or three. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Please don't use headlamp wiring. Just don't. lol

your car has a constant power+ wire behind there, just get a harness and plug it in that simple >$10 at wallyworld/end thread

Hey Captain Brilliant? If you would have bothered to pay but just a teeny bit of attention you might have noticed that the OP is in the capitol city of the state of South Australia. WallyWorld isn't available to him.

Moron.
