Need help with new system(noob)

Alright so it sounds to me like everything out there is going to be the same quality unless I step up to expenisive equipment, do you all agree? Because I've had very few recommendations for specific speakers, head units, amps, or subs, where the reviewer commented about the actual sound quality..

Don't get me wrong I have read a lot and done a lot of searching. However it's hard to sort out the good from the bad.

Thanks LBC I'll check out your topic. It's things like 'Everyone on here says the Phoenix Gold RSD speakers are really good for the price.' that I want to hear. At least that way I'll narrow the list down from seemingly infinite brands/models to a couple dozen(if that) and research those specific ones more.

I know not to trust brand names, some companies spend more money on marketing then others. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're trash(see my dilemna..)

Thanks for the info about the 5 channel amp mavster. So it is possible to use one amp to power all 4 speakers + the sub. I've just got to find the one with the right output etc.

I don't know how many times I've got to say this though, I'm uncomftorable just blindly picking a pair of speakers based on price alone.

So far I've gotten recommendations for

TS-A Series

Phoenix Gold RSD

Pioneer REV(read a lot of good things)

Polk db650(also read a lot of good things)

Still looking for more..

as well as an answer to my question, is it alright to use my stock wiring, or would it make a significant difference if I upgraded?

and..

will it hurt my 'new' speakers to play them loudly without an amp? I've heard that running speakers loudly without an amp is like driving your car at high revs for long periods of time, and that an amp basically 'lowers the revs.' Is this true?

I'm not looking for SPL, just quality.. I don't want to go deaf, or blast my neighbors, just want to be able to listen to all the notes in my music without them sounding like crap or feeling riped off/still wanting more.

Your stock wiring is fine. The only thing you will need to run new wiring for is for your amp.

And for question #2, yes playing your speakers too loud off the deck won't sound that great. You'll start getting a lot of distortion at high volumes. You might not "hurt" them, it will just start sounding crappy.

From reading on the foums here, it seems the best budget speakers are the phoenix gold PSD's and the Pioneer REV's. I've heard neither of them in person though.

As mavster said, a 5-channel amp would be a good way to go if you plan on adding a sub at some point.

I have the Pioneer Revs for my front stage....great speakers...and they handle increased power very well...just make sure your signal is strong....atleast 4v output...

hes going to need wiring...how else is he going to go to his speakers from his amp?
