Need help with HU pre-outs

I installed a Pioneer DEH-1300 aftermarket head unit in my car with two RCA amplifier pre-outs. I hooked up an old dvd player with an integrated 6 channel amp and wired the rca outputs on the HU to the rca inputs on the dvd player but I don't get any sound out of the speakers wired to the dvd player, even when I max the dvd players volume. However, the dvd player works fine when it's hooked up to the tv or some other audio source and a regular subwoofer amplifier works fine when hooked up to the pre-outs on the HU.

I just can't figure out why it won't work how I want it to. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

to summarize:

you verified that the inputs on your DVD/amp work using other sources,

and you verified that the RCA outputs work with an amp.

but when you try to feed the RCA output into the DVD/amp you get nothing.

somehow, are the HU outputs ran through a low pass filter for subs? i haven't read the owner's manual yet. maybe you can set the preouts for subwoofers, which provides a LPF?
