Mono from head unit

Hi. I'm hoping to wire my JVC receiver with stereo sub outs to my mono amp and subwoofer. Can I just Y the RCA's from the JVC to the input or do I need some sort of summing device or resistors to combine them? Thanks for any advice.

you can get stereo bass by maybe going off the left and right channels. The sub channel is usually in mono , even if you see two sub preouts. it is still a mono.

You can get a fully active 4way xover and try to get stereo bass that way. blah blah.?

Your mono amp should internally sub the signals and have stereo inputs. You can't use a y-adapter to combine HU outputs.

I have an active 2-way crossover that has a mono option for the low outputs. Summing needs to be active so you maintain voltage gain with proper input and output impedance,

My amp is actually a stereo running in bridged mono mode. I never thought that the output from the JVC would be mono; I thought two RCA's = stereo. If mono, my problem solved. I can just use one output jack.

I doubt the HU outputs are mono. There would be an internal setting if that was possible. Should be stereo. With a bridged amp, you need both left and right inputs filled. The amp is creating a mono signal when bridged.

if you run an amp in bridged mode most just use the red RCA (right i believe) as the signal, but some amps might combine it

Yes, my amp uses only one input in bridged mode. The amp internally reverses the other channel to sum the outputs for mono.
