go under the electrical section on this site, and on the top of the page the is a thread called the big 3, its a sticky. just go under there and read it and you will understand, its basically upgrading 3 wires in your enging bay, to bigger wires, which gives you more current from your alt to your battery, and keeps your electrical system charged better.

I dont know what your alternator size is stock, but I would go with at least 200AMP alt, maybe 250 and A Kinetic HC2400 which can hold like 2600 amps or so.. I would also do the big 3 in at Least 1/0awg wire if not 2/0

A Factory Alt. Is Designed To Put Out Enough Amps To Supply The Vehicle And Its Systems As Designed By Manufacturer. Anything Added, Such As A System, Puts An Enormous Extra Load On The Alt. That It Can't Handle. Find Out Exactly How Many Extra Amps You Will Be Pulling Then Add That To What The Alt Puts Out Now. Thats The Size Output Alt. You Need At Minimum. As For The Second Battery, Only If You Also Install A Multiple Battery Isolater Otherwise You May Have Some Dead Battery Issues From Time To Time. If I Had To Guess, I Would Say That The Factory Alt. Puts Out About 90-120 Amps. For Your Purpose I Would Start With The Lower Value (90 Amps) For Your Calculations. Also, A 1 Inch Wide Braided Ground Strap From Each Battery Neg Post To The Body Will Do Wonders For Your System.

Hey man I hope I can help you out. I have an '00 Silverado with the amp youre running, Colossus II with 1 12" RE XXX. I have an Iraggi 300a dominator series alt. with all my grounds done; battery negative to chassis, alt positive to battery positive, chassis to engine block for the front. For the amplifier, I grounded it to the cab with a blot (if your installer uses sheet metal screws, slap him in the face) and i don't know if you all know this, but if you own a truck like mine you should know that it sits on 4 rubber bushings. Rubber=bad ground so keeping this in mind, a very good idea is to run go under the car where the threads of the bolt that grounds your amp to the cab, and then take a piece of 1/0 and ground from that bolt to the frame. I have a yellow top under the hood and with the new alt you can crank it pretty high before your voltage drops to 12.5. Any lower than that and your Colossus goes into protect mode. SO what I did was i went out and bought an Odyssey PC2150 *great f-ing batt.* and ran a length of 1/0 alll the way to the bed of the truck where the batt is and then grounded it to the frame. Sorry if it got a little wordy, but it solved all my voltage problems. My XXX is a dual 2 ohm configuration so since the Colossus is not stable at 1 ohm when bridged so make sure you dont run that ish at 2 ohms to get all 3200w because i only get 2000 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif pm me if you need any advice bro
