Need Help with conversion

Trying to help a friend install a DEH-X26UI into a 2006 Grand Prix, the issue I'm running into is that the back of the new stereo uses RCA outputs and of course the original wiring harness is standard stereo wire. I've found converters online but it looks like the would convert the signal in the wrong direction. Are they omnidirectional or do I need a specific type of converter to make this work.

well I'm not too familiar with walmart versions of the radios pioneer sells, but the harness that comes wit the radio should have speaker level outputs (sets of white, gray, purple and green)

The wiring is different because the factory wires are speaker level and the aftermarket RCAs are preamp or, line level. The converters you see are line out converters (LOC) and they only convert from speaker level to line level.

You should be using the speaker level outputs from the head unit, which will be white, gray, green and purple.

Forget abut the RCA outputs - you won't use them for this install. You need to wire the speaker outputs from the head unit to the speaker wires in the factory harness.

There is a connector with colored wires for the head unit - the wires are identified on page 14 of this manual...

You will need to identify the correct colors of the wires in the Grand Prix's harness, or purchase an adapter cable from metraonline or scosche.
