Im going to get someone to build me a box but i want to know what specs to build to. I want to go for sure sq so should i go sealed or ported also what hertz should it be tuned to? Will ported make a big difference compared to sealed? Thanks

Nice choice of subs.

If you want SQ go with a sealed box, don't need to worry about hertz with a sealed box also.

a ported box will be louder but will loose some SQ also. If you do go ported I would suggest tuning in the 30-32hz range.

Also, if you looking for someone to build a box send me a PM.

My IDQ sounded much better ported than it did sealed. It was really lacking below 40hz in the sealed enclosure. I tried it in a smallish sealed (a little smaller than 1 cube), large sealed (~3 cubes), large ported (3 @ 28hz), and small ported (1.5 @ 30hz). It had the flattest response in the 1.5 @ 30hz enclosure in my car and in my room. The sealed boxes just didn't have any low end extension at all. If you're looking for sub 40hz performance, you should really port them.

i disagree installed 2 idq 10's in my brothers 350z in .65 net sealed after displacement the subs were flat smooth and fast from 30 to 75. had plenty of lowend. it could have been your application in terms of car immacomputer. but in my experiences off 600 watts in the z it was sweet.

what ride is this going in original poster?

if it is a trunk car i would though agree with immacomputer. the extra output will help and i also agree on smaller size ported with a low tuning. 30hz and 1.8 i think would be spot on.

Yea, it's going to be vehicle dependent and some vehicles may help squeeze out some more low end, especially vehicles with very small cabins like a 350z. Mine was in a '99 Acura Integra hatchback and also in my room. I ran it in my room for the most part but I did do a lot of swapping and playing around with it and my AV12 in my room and in my car. In both cases, the IDQ 12 just didn't have much output below 40hz where as my av12 had no problems at all.

my camry has a decent sized trunk, so what do you guys suggest, ported and at what hertz or sealed. I am going for PURE SQ. I am sure wince I'm giving the subs 1100 rms it will be loud enough for me.

pure sq. id suggest 2.0 @ 28hz. a little louder and still very flat but not as flat as 28hz id suggest 1.8 @ 30hz

size is net after port and sub displacement for both sizes.

Mike-

If you're planning on running 1100 watts to a pair of them, I wouldn't go larger than 1.5 cubes tuned to 28-30hz. My IDQ was able to reach full excursion on a 300wrms Kenwood amp. Any more power and I wouldn't gain anything from it but I would run the risk of a mechanical failure. Be careful setting your gains with that kind of power and I wouldn't go over 1.5 cubes either.

Man how about this. You, yourself, build a box that is 1cuft per sub sealed. I think you will get the best SQ sealed no matter what. Be careful with your gain, those subs might not like all the power you have. I liked my IDQ15v2, idq10v3, and idmaxv312 sealed better than ported in terms of SQ.
