I had 2 of these beast, and I blew them both up. I dropped one taking it out of the enclosure (I'm still glad in didnt fall on my toes) and the basket cracked in half. The second one I bought a recone kit from Cerwin Vega (There local here) I had to have the stupid thing shipped even though there local, they would not letme come in and pick it up. I installed and tested it. works great no unusual noises or anything.
I read a review and theey reccomeded a 2.7 cu ft sealed enclosure for the best SQ and thats what I was using double walled 1.5" thick all around. Then I when I bought the cerwin vega kit they reccommended a smaller ecnlosure. If I remember correclty 1.4 cu ft sealed.
I think its to small and I want to go ported but the subwoofer after a while of play time stats to smell funny so I turn it off.
This mosnter is supposedto handle 2000 watts rms and by the looks of it I think it can handle it but I'm scared I might blow it again. The recone kit cost a little over 300 dollars.
This cerwin vega was being pushed before with an Orion 2500d amplifier and now after the recone its being pushed with a Kicker zx1500.1 (1780 watts)
All the gains, subsonic filters, crossovers are set correctly.
Can anyone help with the ported enclosure design for this subwoofer and maybe be able to explain whats happenening?, am I doing something wrong?
Thanks everyone for your help, greatly appreciated.
All this is going into a Cadillac Escalade.
Is this subwoofer kind of like the treo csx I had. Treo stated it can handle a huge amounts of watts but for short perod of time (Comps only reccomended)?
