Need help wiring up my alarm LED

i purchased 2 blue LEDs that i am placing on each front door (by the window controls). i would like to have them light up when my car alarm is armed (ON). i cut off the little red LED that came with my PolarStart alarm/starter. i hooked up the red wire of the new LEDs to a constant power and the black wire i hooked up to the accessory wire that went to the original red LED that i cut off.

(Varad LED instructions)

the new LEDs light up fine when i turn on the alarm. but when it's off i can see some faint blue flckering coming from them. i do not know where this residual activity is coming from.

should i try to use another accessory wire? which one should i use on the alarm? i'll try and post up the wiring schematics for the alarm manual so you can suggest. i know that i can just have the LED's go on when the car is off. but i'd specifically like the LEDs to light up when the alarm is actually armed.

thanks.

Uh.. first off, I dont understand those instructions. The black cable, which is the ground, needs to be grounded. LEDs are picky as hell. The little flicker is probably from the faint amount of power that the ACC wire gets. Try grounding the thing first... if not then I dont know what else to tell you.

here is the wiring diagram. i've circled the 2 wires i am currently using for Power and Accessory. i'm assuming that when the alarm is ON the accessory wire turns into a ground wire (?) and allows the LED to light up.

the other way that Varad instructs you to hook up the LED when you don't have an alarm is like this. but like i said before... i'm trying to hook it up so it goes on when my alarm is actually armed.

if anyone else has any suggestions as to which wire to use... it would be a big help.

Well I dont know what else to tell you. I've never worked with any of that stuff.. so I can't really help you any more. But, I still believe that the flicker is from the tiny amount of power that the wires are getting. Kind of like the reason you dont want to run your power and RCAs by each other... the energy kind of radiates across.

anyone else?

i know that it's pretty simple... i'm just too ://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif to figure it out right now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well... i decided to just wire them in series using the basic POWER/GROUND/IGNITION hook up that turns them on then i start the car. the problem that i'm having now is that the LED's don't fully light up right away. it sort of "st-st-stutters" before giving a full glow. is it the way i wired it up? i checked all the connections and they are all good. i'm going off my wires on the back of my deck. this happens when the radio is on or off, doesn't matter.

help?

thanks.

Hook up a relay that gets tripped off of the wires from your deck, and run the power to your battery. That should solve it. You can ask pretty much anyone on here how to hook up a relay. You can get them for like $4 from AutoZone, or $.99 online somewhere. Good luck.

Hit me up on AIM if you have it. Easier to work with there than on these forums.

i have had this same question...now what i think i am going to try is....use the red for power....and then find something to connect the yellow wire to, that is grounded when the car is off and powered when the car is on....i think thats how it goes....forget the black wire...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

With your VARAD LED does it have a black box attached to them? In the middle, with 2 wires running to single LEDs runs out one end. On the other end of the box, FOUR wires:

RED - Battery or constant 12V (POSITIVE)

YELLOW - Ignition (Deactivates HyperLED when positive 12V is applied)

BLUE - Head Light positive 12V (Turns LEDs on constantly)

BLACK - Ground

Is this correct?
