need help wiring Double din headunit

Hello all, I have so-so skills/experience with car audio and needed little bit of help getting my unit working.

The stereo I'm putting in is the Clarion Max 385VD. It is Going into a 2002 Monte Carlo SS. Now I had a different unit in my car before but It got stolen. So now were on to the fun part. I managed to figure out what I thought was all of the wiring by going from the car plug to the adapter plug and then to the radio plug.

I know for a fact I have all of the speakers correct and thought I had most of the other things right, But found out I was wrong.

Once I got the radio and everything else together I couldn't get the screen to turn on. The face will open and it will take/ eject CDs but the screen does not work and it seems like it is not powering on all the way?

Now I am going to go through a quick overview of everything I did. (besides speaker wiring)

I ran the yellow 12+V wire to the 12+V wire coming out of the radio Harness

The ground went to the ground in the radio harness

The Amp on wire ran back to my kicker amp in the trunk

*** these are the wire's that I am not sure if I hooked up correctly***

I ran the orange white wire (Illumination) from the unit to the instrument Panel Lamp supply voltage- (1) in the car radio harness

I ran the Auto Antenna from the unit to Antenna enable signal in the car radio harness

There is also A red wire coming out of the clarion unit labeled +12V Accessory. I have no Idea where to wire this. What is it for?

Did I do this right? I tried to be as specific as I could be. My guess would be that I messed up somewhere with the 12v accessory wire or the main 12v wire coming in. Do I have to run another wire somewhere or switch them? and is it alright that I have the ground going to the ground in the radio harness or should I try to mount it to the chassis somewhere?

I'm sorry for giving so much info, asking what may be a lot. But the Installation manual is VERY very vague, and I couldn't find anyplace else to get the information from. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. And if there is any other information that would be helpful please just let me know.

Thanks again for any help!!!

Thanks for the input guys... So when I run/hookup the acc wire you think I should be all right? Should have known better, but I was having a brain fart with finals and all and thought that it was an output wire rather than input.

ps.

Also, you think the ground should be fine going into the radio harness? Wire that came with my head unit is probably a good 3 times thicker then the wire that is coming from my car. Thanks again!

Once the acc wire is properly connected you'll be golden.

Others might tell you different, but I've found the ground wire on the harness is almost always sufficient.

And if you run the acc to an accessory wire in the ignition harness don't forget to fuse that bish.

Blah... thanks for the info on what to do guys, but now I'm having another problem lol.

So I got everything set up now, and got the unit to work (Clarion Max 385VD). But I'm getting another problem. The radio works fine, but if I put in a CD or try to use my Ipod it wont play any type of sound. I have the cord that is for the unit so I can control my ipod. The weird thing is that I can actually go through and control everything, I can see albums, track names, playlists, and everything else. But when there should be sound coming out there is none, it seems like the track is playing (it counts down the track length).

I checked to see if it auto mutes or something and it wasn't that. Tried playing around with the settings to see if there was something in there that Got switched around, but couldnt find anything. Any idea what I'm having problems with now? or is it a defective unit?

I tried contacting customer support, so I'm waiting for them to get back to me. I'm going to look around a little more to see if anyone else i having the same problems. If anyone has any ideas or info though I'll love you!! thanks again!

You have your power antenna wire hooked up to you amp turn on, whether it be the factory amp or and aftermarket. The power antenna wire is solid blue, you need the blue with white stripe which is amp turn on.

ditto

Cause your car doesnt supply power for the antenna when the radio isnt on so your amps are getting turned on

Alright, Thanks again everyone... Looks like I'll have something to do tomorrow when I get home. Hopefully I can get it working right this time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
