Need help w/ going active

I really kind of looked up to you as far as your system goes and im sure you started off like me, and I bet when you were trying to get info im sure you didnt like it when people were arrogant jerks to you about a simple question that you know they know what the answer is.

My thread is asking for help and if you dont want to offer any then I suggest you go waste your time somwhere else //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Good site, thanks!

Waiting on an answer to this question...

So I think im going to run a pair of 4 inch comps and then do 6.5 midbass like the MLI-65 or somthing (with the bandpass) that will do well off 50ish rms per speaker (planning on getting more power) and crossing them from 80-1k hertz and having the comps go from 200-500 to 20k hertz

What do you guys think?

btw Im using a 4channel amp and am trying to run everything off of that right now for money reasons

so the rear would be mids and front would be comps and rear fill basically

So you plan on using the 4 inch comps with their passive crossover, correct?

And you plan on setting the midbass from 80-90-1k?

No. On the one hand, I should let you research, which is what James is doing. On the other hand, if you are using that processor, those won't be the crossover points anyway, being an auto-tune processor.

If you plan on running a 4-way set-up using the 4 inch comps on a passive crossover, be sure to have the tweets and the mids as close together as possible, and of course, high, where tweeters belong.

I said no because you have a huge overlap and have chosen terrible crossover points. If you are using an auto-tune device, you are still limited by the quality of install.

I don't have this processor, I have the CDA 9887 which has the same processing abilities. Its not a magic fix-all. You will still need to learn some.

Active implies there's no passive xovers. Nice idea, but there's really not a cheap way to go active.

Diyma is goodness. But don't go cheap or unresearched into an active setup and expect the results you want.

you got it wrong. the processor is just that - a processor. you have to but the mic and software (for about $35-40) to have it auto-tune the system, which sucks anyways. with just the processor and the hu you can tune it however you like.

I think you are thinking of the PXA H650;) Depending on deck, that is..look, this processor is an auto-tune processor designed to work with a very limited number of decks. It has very limited functions and the main point of it is the auto-tune.

I think you are thinking of the PXA H650;)U nless you are using another deck than the one you have listed in your sig.
what does a kenwood have to do with an alpine processor?

i had the pxa-h100 and ran with with an ida-x100. you have full control over everything with it alone. the only thing you get from buying the ktx-h100 is the mic and software, which enables the auto-tuning.

My main goal is to have dedicated midbass, and a set of components w/ passive crossovers to do everything else. I am only 17 and this is my second "real" system, I know that im not going to go fully active. I am trying to learn and this the first step im taking towards becoming more "SQ" oriented and not just buying a huge sub and crappy coaxials.

I am buying a nice set of 4 inch components but I am also buying a dedicated midbass drier because the 4 inch comps will not produce the midbass I want. Having that dediated MB will allow me to cross my comps higher as well.

I am asking suggestions for a good suggestion for some midbass to mix w/ a pair of 4 inch components. As far as crossover points some suggestions from guys who have done this more is why im asking around. I have seen people running big 6.5 drivers up to 3k hertz but since I Have comps I dont need to cross them that high. I have done alot of research on the Zaphaudio 6.5-7" driver comparison and looking there but just wanted some suggestions so I make an educated decision,

My overall goal is to go active but for right now I want to use my 4inch comps but run dedicated midbass. I assumed active is running a certain speaker or speakers with a custom set frequency range.

Correct me if im wrong,

William
