Hey i need some help on how to use a relay. I will be installing 2 leds strip i bought off from oznium.com into my sub box. I read that a relay is recommended. So i went to radio shack and bought a 30 amp auto relay. The pins on it is as follow, 86, 87, 85, 30/51. i do not know what wires to connect to each pins so if someone could please help me, it be much appreciated.

thanks,

k.s

do you want to wire them up to a switch so you can turn them on and off. or wire them so everytime you turn youre car on they come on?

ok 85 & 86 are going to energize ur relay.

run constant 12v to a switch. from the switch to 85, & 87, then ground 86, then have 30 run of to the series of led's grounding the ground wire off the led's.

couldnt you also just get a 3 prong rocker switch and eliminate the relay? pole one wouldbe ground 2 would be the pos. led of the leds and pole 3 would be 12v constant

Can i use my amps remote wire instead of a constant 12v. and where does the power wire from the led strips go into?

you could but i wouldent use the remote stright off the deck...

i would use the remote off the deck to flip a relay to up the output to ur amp's and led's.

usually you can, but it's not a good idea to turn on 2 or more amps with just ur rem turn on off the deck..

depends on the draw from the led's, witch is not allot, usually switches will only take 10 or less amps...

yea i got my remote wire daisychained from one of my amp to the other. so i could just tap into the constant 12v from my deck? and where does the power wire from the leds go?

i would pull 12v off the ignition wire from the ignition harness under the dash. put a 5-10 amp fuse on that, run it up to a 2 prong switch. in and out the switch so that the switch opens and closes youre circuit for the relay.

from the switch to 85, and 87, ground 86 and the ground from the led's. then power from led's to 30 on the relay.

oh i got it now! as for the ground, can i just hook up a wire from my amp's ground to the relay or should i find some bare metal?

I bought this switch to wire up leds as well. It has 3 prongs on the back, 1 says not used, the 2nd is 12volt source and the 3rd is 12v output trigger. I have 4 led tubes which I want to be able to switch on/off. How would I do that?
