Need help tracking down noise please

I am using my stock 2006 GMC H/U with an Aura RPM4200. Since the amp has high-level inputs I decide to use them rather than buying an LOC. The problem is, now I have a constant whining sound coming through the speakers when the key is in the ON position. There is no noise when the key is in the ACC position. With the truck running, the whining fluctuates with engine speed. The first thing that came to mind was to check the ground, so I checked according to instructions on this sight that say to measure the resistance from the grounding point (rear seat bolt) to the neg. battery terminal using a long wire. I got 0.3 ohms, which is the same reading I got when I tested only the wire itself. I also ran a wire from the neg. terminal of the battery to the neg. terminal of the amp. So, I assume the ground is good, but I still have noise. I even have noise if i turn the H/U off. As long as the speaker wires coming from the H/U are connected to the amp, I have noise. The Aura has 9 wires for the high level input, 8 speaker connections and a ground. I connected the ground to the same point as the main amp ground. Is that the correct locatio for this ground?

BTW, the power for the amp is 8 gauge and is connected to the main fuse box connector. The remote turn-on lead is connected to the fused side of the power window fuse.

Sorry for the book.

thats an awesome place for the remote turn on wire btw.

reground your amp, because the noise has nothing to do with your HU. to prove it, disconnect the RCA's from your amp, and you will still hear that noise.

I had that same problem, And I tried everything to get rid of the noise, i grounded Hi level inputs to Amp, HU, Seperate. But i never was able to get rid of the whine...

I ended up buying a Tsuname Hi-lo converter from CC and PRESTO solved the problem.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic about the remote wire or not, but thanks, I think.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm not using RCAs, I'm running the speaker outputs from my head unit into the high level inputs on the amp. I took the H/U out of dash turned it on and disconnected the high-level input wires from the head unit and the whine went way. When I reconnect the wires the whine comes back. So I assume it's either in the wiring or in the H/U. The input/speaker wiring runs down the passenger side while the power and remote run down the driver side.

Thanks for the tips guys.

not at all sarcastic. i am gonna to that to save myself from not having to run a relay. only drawback is that the car has to be in the on position, instead of the acc position.

Nothing to do with headunit ground. It has everything to do in this case with the amp and it's high level inputs. Disconnect the high level inputs and purchase a high power LOC like the Scosche LOC80. It will be able to take a "hot" input like that in your system, add a gain control on it and a far superior and noise free signal going to your amp.

That was my next step as well, thanks for recommending a specific model. I wasn't sure if I needed to go with a Navone LOC to filter out the noise of if another brand would work. I think I can get the Scosche locally.

Cool, thanks. My power windows work when the key is in the ACC, so my amp does too. It also stays on when I turn the key off with the doors closed, so the system keeps playing until I open the door, they call it RAP, not sure what it stands for.

I'm still wondering if I connected the speaker-level inputs on my amp correctly. The Aura has 9 wires for the high level input, 8 speaker connections and a ground. I connected the ground to the same point as the main amp ground. Is that the correct location for this ground? I'm not sure if my stock head unit has a common ground or floating ground, does it matter? I started with the speaker-level input ground wire disconnected, and when I grounded it along with the amp, the noise seemed to get a little quieter, but not much.

if the car has a power antenna you can tap that in the trunk...
not having to run wire FTW! haha

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Hey dude. I just installed a system in my 2002 Silverado Ext. Cab 4x4. I wanted the stealth look so I retained the factory HU. I installed an LOC and had loud engine whine. Rewired the whole system, double, triple checked 8 gauge grounds, drilled, sanded and still had noise. I then removed the LOC and wired to the highpass inputs of my Soundstream electronic crossover and the noise went away. I then moved the equipment into it's final resting place thinking I was good to go, started the truck and now the whine is back, though not as loud. I'm using good equipment, old school Orion amps, Soundstream x-over, Orion spkrs, so I don't know what to do. Maybe an aftermarket HU is the answer, if only to eliminate any suspicious wiring by using RCA's. I guess you have to just make **** sure NO wires are crossing or touching by connecting one wire at a time. Good luck!

I actually found my problem. It was the way I wired the ground on my amp's high-level inputs. I guess the extra ground wire serves as a referencefor the inputs. It had to be connected to one of the neg. speaker inputs. I had the extra ground wire grounded along with the amp. Once I made that change, the noise went away completely. Now the system is totally noise-free.
