Need help setting up amp

I just got my JBL 180.2 today and will be installing it this weekend. There are a couple settings I need help with. I will be running my 6.5s with it so should I set my xover at flat or HP? How do I go about adjusting the freq? And is the input level the gain? I will also be installing my 9830 this weekend for the first time. What should I mess with first, HU or amp?

Get the HU working first. Then worry about the amp after that is running like a champ.

You will want to set it on HP. I believe those JBLs don't have frequency marks on them, and if htey do they aren't accurate. So basically start playing music at a relatively loud volume, slowly turn the knob left until they begin to distort then turn it back right a bit.

You need to set the Gain first. Search the forums, there is a tutorial here somewhere on doing it correctly.

if your hu has a bulit in crossover, i'd use that instead and leave the set your amp to flat.

So should I set it for HP or use the HU xover and set the amp to flat? I have a 9830 which has the built in xovers. Now the only problem with using the HU is my front channels will be powering 6.5s and 3.5s. It wont be for too long though because I am saving up for a comp set but until then this is what I have. If I set the amp to flat do I still need to change the xover freq on the amp? If so, on the amp should I set the gain or the xover freq first. Thanks guys. I am new to the amp scene.

I'd much rather use the amplifier's crossover if it has one (unless it's fixed) ...

I can set it to HP, LP, and FLAT and can adjust it from 32 Hz to 320 Hz.
