i just bought a used reciver for my room, and the impedance per speaker input is 8ohm and i have a four ohm pkeaker going to it and when i turn it up to 30 or 64 it turns off, is the impedance the problem i dont know cause i have only 4ohm speakers.

most home stereos are made to put out in 8 ohm loads, and are not very stable under that, so yes i'd say thats the problem

not good for the life of your sub or stereo, but perhaps your home stereo has a setting that will allow it to cooperate with a 4ohm load, one of mine does...check your manual and see if there is anything to switch the modes over, might only be on the 'subwoofer' channel on the reciever..
