Need help picking 1rst subs/amp!

Hey guys I was hoping you could help me pick my first system. I only have around $300 to spend. I decided that I want kicker subs and I have found them for $200 already in a box. I just dont know which one to get. There are two different models a 4ohm and a 2 ohm What does ohm mean? Or do you think I should get a different amp? Suggestions are welcome.

Also what do you think it would cost to install a system like this?

i would try to find a better amp, the 2 you listed are poor quality, maybe try hifonics? or something used around here? as far as the subs and ohms, the ohms your subs have have to match the amps output ohm load... i'd get the 2 ohm sub you listed (which i believe is a dual 4 wired to 2)... you could get more out of it if you had a box built for it, the prefabs aren't all that great. you could get a decent amp to power the 12" for 150 to 200 off here in the classifieds. as far as install i'd say do it yourself, read around here a bit and it shouldn't be too hard... a shop will charge an arm and a leg for an install...

Well , if all you had was a sub amp and a preloaded box , I would charge you 30 bucks and some lunch ....

Yeah both those amps are pretty bad , and their prices are pretty steep . Are you looking for a warrantee ? You could probably do just as good at your local car audio dealer .

If not Ebay is your friend , remember youre gonna need a wiring kit to install the amp also .

Could someone name the brands I should be looking for. Also I have read a lot of good reviews for those amps powering 1 sub. Although one did say that the boss amp overheated in 2mins at full blast
