need help pickin out a laptop

i see some nice ones there. but im kinda confused about the processing speed. the highest i saw was 1 @ 2.6GHz. and i could swear that my dell has a 2.8GHz, and its 2 years old and a pentium 4...

the processors as of late do alot more work per clock cycle, not to mention most have multipule cores and 64bit functionality, not that you will take advantage of that.

oh well thats good. i would imagine that cuts down on the heat. well then what would you suggest as a good processor. im thinkin AMD, no intel. what u think about the turion 64 x2?

iirc the intel core duo 2 blows everything away at the moment. turon is a budget cpu as well, once again, iirc

well i heard intels pretty bad with heat problems (and i can def vouche for it). and ive only heard good things about AMD. well what would you say is the best AMD ut there?

hmm .. yea i also heard of intel heat problems .. but with the right cooling with an aftermarket cooler .. they are like AMD's with stock cooling .. lol .. but as for laptops .. there are plenty of companies to choose from .. a company i see in my computer magazines is http://www.ibuypower.com they have some good prices on some desktops and laptops ..

You may want to consider intel again now..they make some **** nice new chips...

Intel speeds are useless comapred to AMD speeds, AMD does more per clock that it makes up for the less Mhz. Example

Pentuim4 @ 3.2GHz is equal inperformace to the AMD AthlonXP 3200+ that runs at 2.2GHz.

They are sweet... but lots of apps dont work on them, so if ur business oriented, then u'd wanan double chekc that.

A lot of applications are made (usually better) on a Mac. Worst case scenario, the Intel MacBooks can reboot in Windows XP natively.

IBM HAD a reputation for being reliable, i've heard so-so things since lenovo took over.

Sounds to be pretty nice, the 1705 and the new hp dv9000's where the 2 i was looking at, ended up just getting the hp after a long decision process with lots of help from forums, consumer reports, computer mags etc..

Reliable laptop ? Yeah right ... They all have poor reliability ... Fat hard drives don't exist in laptops (best you'll find is 160 GB) ... Sound is going to be integrated ...
CPU: Turion64 X2

GPU: GeForce 7600 or 7900

Memory: 1 GB or 2 GB

The new HPs are fairly well-built, look really nice, and use Turion processors ...

i meant more reliable than dell. 160 gigs would be more than enough for me (though ive seen 200). dont care about sound too much. but memory is a big thing
