Why doesnt max power matter as much as rms?

Max power is usually what the manufacturer got the item to do once in a lab environment under perfect conditions......RMS is what you can expect from it in the real world all the time......rms is what it will put out at 12V sitting in your trunk/hatch

and since they have dual voice coils, will they fit my XM-1652Z?

just make sure that if you get dvc subs and hook them up your amp can handle the OHM load.....i have a Kenwood PS-200 for sale for $5 with blown outputs because of this very reason........my first ever car audio casualty....if they're 4 OHM dual voice coil you'll be putting a 2 OHm's per channel load on the amp, your amp is listed as putting out

Rated Output Power:

2 Ch x 165W at 4 ohm (0.04% THD)

1 Ch x 400W at 4 ohm (0.1% THD)

2 Ch x 200W at 2 ohm (0.1% THD)

so they would be getting 200W each

however, if they're 2 OHM dvc's they'll show a 1 Ohm load and that would kill your amp

that's a good deal on those subs....but shipping to me is $90 for the pair......still not too bad for those.....you might wanna check shipping to you first

also....call local car stereo shops and see if any of them carry used stuff.......some do and you can get a good bit better stuff for cheap....my first setup was used stuff and it rocked.......plus, local support......

Those alpines are solid entry level subs but you can do better with the saem amount of money.

I once had 2 12" xplod's and a sony amp and it wasnt all that bad got loud just didnt sound as good as some others.

For the more entry level stuff I favor MTX, the sound quality on my old 12" T8000 was awesome for a more entry level brand.
